Not sure what or if UK broadcasters have special coverage planned, I know some documentaries have already started to air in the run up to the anniversary.

BBC News and BBC World News will have a special programme from 1300 BST. Laura Trevelyan is presenting.

It doesn't look like any of the main UK channels are doing anything on the day, which is not especially unexpected, being a Saturday (and also the Last Night of the Proms).

Also as you'd expect, wall-to-wall documentaries on the likes of Sky History and Nat Geo.

It seems to be the scheduling policy of the main UK channels to commission or repeat 9/11 docs before the date, but nothing on the day at all.

Channel 4 showed the 15th anniversary edition of 102 Minutes that Changed the World in August. I think in recent years, the original doc has been on More4 in September.

Sky News will probably do something as well or just show parts of the ceremony as per usual as part of normal bulletins.

Not coverage of the anniversary itself but certainly coincided with the runup to it, the BBC did an absolutely brilliant show with a minute-by-minute account by people such as George Bush himself. Was very gripping and really interesting.

Nat Geo's new commission 9/11: A Day in America is very good. It was made in conjunction with the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, so they were able to access footage the museum has, along with some detailed accounts from the people who were there.

They showed two new documentaries last week - one was from the perspective of the President etc.

The other was called Surviving 9/11 and featured several people who either survived or had relatives who were killed 20 years on. A really interesting and well made programme

Surprised they scheduled both so far ahead of 11 September. Possibly pulled forwards due to what was happening in Afghanistan?

I suspect both programmes had to air earlier for scheduling reasons.

I like how people were asking if crossroads was coming back on. Also, interesting to note that BBC News 24 did not have a recognized presenter known to BBC1 viewers until Huw Edwards arrived.

I'm not sure when the Afghanistan withdrawal was decided but those programmes were scheduled and promoted for weeks before.

I think it's just the BBC trying to get in first with their retrospectives, I'm pretty sure they've done the same with other anniversaries

Amusing now that someone couldn't watch the news because his dad was watching the History Channel.... rather than what we now know is actual history :lol:

It’s a bit like an out of body experience reading that thread back 20 years on! It’s literally half my lifetime ago.

Yes - that is noteable, though perhaps a ratings call as well to air them in August rather than as a "new season" begins in September.
