That's an interesting random timing for a PM announcement. Right in the middle of Saturday primetime.

It's a shame that the Strictly results show is recorded on a Saturday Night, as if it was live tonight I would have loved to see how Tess and Claudia segwayed into the Ministerial Broadcast (isn't this the PM's 4th unless I'm mistaken?
I doubt they would - it's already dampening the mood on what should have been a decent night of entertainment.
Has to be questions too about allowing a party leader five minutes of primetime airtime on BBC1/ITV unchallenged just days before a critical by-election.

Prime Ministerial Broadcasts take precedence on some PSB channels, but there is always a right of reply the following day from the Official Opposition.
It just seems like odd timing.
I don't watch Strictly or IAC, so it doesn't bother me in that sense, but I'll have to pause a Netflix movie to see it. :?
I can’t see anything about Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland as of yet - previously I’m sure some of the PM’s haven’t aired, or just the FMs, or sometimes even both.
While it’s not introducing new restrictions - there are some small differences, mainly on the continuing roll out of the booster vaccine as well as differing isolation rules.
Can't help but think he's only doing this to make himself look more statesmanlike and take attention away from partygate. Seems over the top for a full on broadcast just to announce the changing of levels and update on the booster programme otherwise.

I was thinking that, or as I've seen suggested he could've done it as a press conference but didn't as he didn't want to face questions.

It's something the Health Secretary for example could announce in a tour of the UK's breakfast programmes.

I don't think it's mandatory to watch it live, or even watch it at all ? (Well, not yet anyway !)
