This evening's ITV News Lookaround and ITV News Tyne Tees are both marking the 1,900th anniversary of Hadrian's Wall.

Amy Lea is flying solo in the Gateshead studio, with the day's news and sport for each region all crammed into the first 17 minutes or so of the programme. I've no idea which region is live/recorded.

The latter part of the programme is live pan-regionally, with Ian Payne on location at Housesteads Roman Fort. A short sting punctuated the end of the split part of the programme, followed by a brief studio link with Amy throwing to Ian (with the GCI gallery studio backdrop).

Something different about the Carlisle "window" backdrop for the first few minutes of Lookaround tonight.

(DISCLAIMER: I've never been to Carlisle, so don't know what's where in real life)

The trio of screens along the back wall usually show the following:

Left screen: Cathedral towards the left of the screen, tall factory/pottery (?) chimney towards the right.

Middle screen: Mostly a fairly non-descript sea of roofs, with and end-on view up a major road towards the very right of the screen.

Right screen: Carlisle Castle, which is illuminated in a reddish hue in the nighttime version of the view - making it stand out against the cold blue dusky sky etc.

The images on the middle and right screens were swapped over from the outset of tonight's programme. The unusual presence of the big red lump that is the illuminated castle was very noticably not-in-the-usual-place, by being in the middle of the overall panoramic view.

By about 6:06pm, they seem to have reshuffled the backdrop into the usual/correct (presumably true to reality?) order.

it was one of those rare occasions where Lookaround was live, so was corrected while on-air.

Disastrous insert into the Scottish opening of the BBC News at 10pm tonight. The camera seemed to be all over the place and not sure the presenter could see the autocue. We certainly couldn’t see him. Total car crash and they didn’t even get to the second headline before having to opt back in to the opening of the Ten.

STV’s Gordon Chree assaulted while reporting on Ukraine refugees

A lot of churn from STV in recent months. Sarah McMullan went from presenting GMB opt bulletins to doing the same job during Breakfast on Reporting Scotland, Louise Scott went to ITV News to become Scotland Correspondent and now late night bulletin presenter Sophie Wallace is off on April 19th.

Wouldn’t be at all surprised if she made the move to ITN / ITV News.

Considering Vanessa Kennedy has been covering the STV Central Six and Sophie's late shifts this week, I wonder if she's replacing her in April?
