The assumption is that BT Sport and Eurosport in the UK will no longer exist and both will be replaced by a new organisation with access to the content both currently show.
Surley dumping Eurosport as a brand would be pretty foolish given so much coverage is produced on a pan-European or pan-Global basis under the Eurosport brand.
I was only half joking a few pages back when I first suggested it, but 'BT Eurosport', actually would be the best name publicly facing name this new joint operation.
So we can then have BT Eurosport ESPN? Surely just adding Eurosport 1/2 as two channels as part of the BT Sport package (if the Sky deal allows) and then BT Sport available as part of the Discovery Sport subscription is better than ditching two well known brands.
The difficulty there is the huge disparity in the BT Sport and Discovery+ Sport subscription prices. In Ireland BT Sport is €34pm (that admittedly includes Premier Sports too, and I know it’s not that expensive in the UK where it doesn’t include Premier Sports) whereas Discovery+ Sport is a mere less than quarter of that price at €6.99pm (and you are getting all the factual Discovery Channels content thrown in for that too).
The issue with a complete merger of operations is that two channels are two different markets - Eurosport is “basic tier” where as BT Sport is premium.
Unfortunately in this JV, if operations are fully merged, it will be almost certainly the existing Eurosport content moving up to the BT Sport subscription price, not the BT Sport content moving down to Discovery+‘s comparatively cheap price point - at least, not without a hefty price increase for the latter.
Not quite BT Sport related but BT has today confirmed that the business is changing. To summarise all domestic BT customers who have landline, broadband and TV will move over to EE. Only business customers and a few legacy customers will be operated under the BT banner.
The article suggests the Warner Bros Discovery share of BT Sport is still on, maybe a change of name also? Who knows.

Seems ridiculous to throw away the brand heritage that comes with BT for a 5 minute old mobile brand. Makes you wonder though if they want to sell off the general customer aspect of their business too.

Hardly 5 minutes old, it’s been around quite some time now and has pretty good brand awareness. Feels much fresher than BT in my opinion especially with its quirkier ads. But BT must still be better known? Quite the turnaround from this:

I can't wait for the pun "EEk! My broadband's out!"

I imagine that’s the reason BT Sport is keeping its name for now, it will get its own new name in due course. It must be getting very late now though for any JV to be put in place for this August at this stage, given that’s just over three months away now, a deal still hasn’t been done, and any deal done will no doubt have to go through the usual competition authorities before it’s completed. Likely now that, even if a deal is done shortly, BT Sport and Eurosport will at least begin the 2022-23 season as separate entities.
I think it was only added to the schedule yesterday (I guess they don't want to cannibalise potential sales of the repeat), but last week's Fury v Whyte PPV event is on BT Sport 3 tonight at 9pm. Look out for the world's biggest OB presentation desk - I think it was previously used on one of the Amazon PL matches.
Yes - Sky do the same and only add the replay to the schedule after the event, though I think their last flagship PPV match was stuck up on Youtube by Sky the following day.
I still don't like the BBC snooker frame graphics. I find them very ugly. And the room left for all the stats is not utilised well, with different formats of graphic and positions.
I'm surprised it hasn't gone down the cricket road though, with constantly scrolling facts and figures.
I just don't get the logic behind it - assumed it was a tease of a new house style for BBC Sport and guess it may yet to prove be, but the change doesn't improve on what they had, doesn't solve any problems and doesn't look better.
BT Group plc full year results 2021-22 will be published Thursday, so perhaps some news on the WBD tie up at that point?
