Yes, fair point. My socket is branded 'Openreach' and in smaller letters, 'a BT group Business' with a grey rendering of the BT 'coloured ball'; logo alongside a larger 'BT'. No idea of its date, it was here when we bought the house in 2019

Ours looked exactly like that when we moved in until a couple of weeks ago when we left Virgin and went to Sky so Openreach replaced the faceplate on it with the twin version.

Latest from The Times on the BT Sport future is that BT is now talking to the Premier League and UEFA to get approval for DAZN to take over BT Sport and the subject of a BT Sport sale will be discussed at the BT board meeting tomorrow.

DAZN have the UEFA Champions League rights in Germany (and have two channels for that purpose on the Sky Q EPG), so UEFA should be fine, having approved them in the past, assuming no other bad blood.

My first thoughts to this are, as a BT Sport customer in contract... If BT offload BT Sport to DAZN (or any other operator for that matter), one would think that they would have to honour my contract.

However, I can only receive BT TV services here (No Sky, No Cable - aerial and IPTV only).

Surely, with my new 2 year deal, with BT Sport a big part of the contract, that would have to be honoured in some way?

Yes - if you buy a company you buy the customer database. They may opt to honour it in a different way (an app on a smart stick perhaps) but they would have to honour it. It's likely in the short term BT will act as a reseller of DAZN and that'll be part of your package, just as the free six months of BritBox is for example.


What remains to be seen is how this impacts on BT TV - I always assumed that pretty much existed as a platform to sell BT Sport on, so without it within the portfolio not sure it has much long term future, especially as the Sky elements of it have already been moved over to them reselling Now TV.

That's just sales patter for 'you'll be on the top non-premium package, which includes BT Sport'. Presuming they can't arrange a deal with DAZN they'd just pick a different channel.

Assuming the proposed JV is approved, it'll be really interesting to see how it'll operate. One of the things I'm really curious about is whether Eurosport & BT Sport's rights/operations will be combined into one or if the two brands will remain separate (with BT Sport remaining as a 'premium' offering) and we'll merely see some shuffling of rights between the two.

BT seem to have dodged a bullet with DAZN , The combination seems to be deeper than Sport according to comments online this morning. Discovery+ is included and I would expect to see a linear offering returning to BT's service outside of the NOW bundle too.

Maybe we'll see the launch of "BT Sport Eurosport ESPN", which roles off the tongue much better than "DAZNESPN".

Ultimately though not really a fan of another British vroadcast group falling in the hands of an American player.

Interesting to see DAZN’s chairman saying they still have expansion plans in the U.K. - I wonder what those might entail?
