This is a wrestling company where an old woman gave birth to a hand, a character was accused of having sex with a dead body, and there have been multiple angles involving incest, I kid you not! WWE and Dignity have never been in the same State, never mind the same building!

WWE back on 13th September 2001, held the first mass gathering of people since the events of 9/11, a live edition of SmackDown. At that event WWE went very patriotic and pushed the idea that they were not going to let the terrorists win, and it was incredibly well recieved by their fanbase. So, almost 10 years later, John Cena announcing the death of Osama Bin Laden in the arena (I'm not sure it was actually broadcast by WWE, the pay-per-view may have gone off the air at that time, will check WWE Network when I have some time) was like coming full circle back to the beginning.

Wrestlers don't go to the hospital when they suffer an injury, "Sports Entertainers" are taken to a "local medical facility". I was going to mention that episode of Smackdown. It was actually incredibly moving, Lillian Garcia's acappella Star Spangled Banner especially so.
There have been kayfabe injuries when the injured has been seen in the hospital - Steve Austin "injuring" Mr McMahon followed by the "Bedpan McMahon" incident is a particularly famous one. Obviously with legit injuries this doesn't happen.
This was in the era you had the legit Vince McMahon but was "playing" the kayfabe character of Mr McMahon.
Of course, Mr McMahon was "killed" in a limo explosion but was forced to break kayfabe soon after to handle the legit death of Chris Benoit before the true circumstances of that incident became clear.

It made sense in Vince McMahon's ears, and at the end of the day, WWE is built around and for one man and one man alone, and that man is Vince McMahon.
Oh and having checked the replay of the Pay Per View broadcast, the broadcast is off the air by 10.49pm ET, and the footage on the YouTube video was from 10.55pm ET. That announcement by John Cena was for the crowd only, and was not broadcast live. WWE superstars are very adept at talking to the camera if they are actually on a broadcast. You'll notice from the footage, he's not looking at the camera, he's looking at the crowd. That information was after the broadcast had gone off air, and was for the crowd in attendance only. WWE obviously decided to record the footage for posterity.

Yeah, that particular episode of SmackDown was incredibly moving, and extremely powerful. WWE made a conscious choice that night, and that message resonated loud and clear, not just with WWE's fanbase, but also with others around the world. I think it was the boldest and bravest decision that Vince McMahon ever took, and I think it paid off for him in ways that cannot be shown on a balance sheet, as well as ways that can. WWE earned a lot of respect that night.
