I doubt they will use TC1, it is far to vast a size of studio for a debate.

That was the 2019 election IIRC.  Channel 4 empty chaired him by putting a melting ice sculpture there.

Really not sure what the ITV debate tonight offers off the back of the C4 debate on Friday with it being the same candidates. I suspect they'll try and cover a couple of the issues not covered before, and of course it'll probably attract a different audience to those watching a C4 News debate, but arguably the next debate of real value will be when they get down to two. Still nothing announced for the BBC but suspect that is when they'll come in to play.

The ITV debate is only an hour so I imagine it’ll be a lot tigher

Bit tighter and hopefully a bit more objective and focussed. As was said upthread the "show of hands" stuff bought nothing to the table - even Stevie Wonder could have seen the result coming.

Without being political, a lot more of the people who will get to cast a vote will probably be tuned in tonight than would have bothered on Friday but also I predict a wider cross-section of the electorate. The winner from the five will, in the next two and a half years, have to seek their own mandate and I imagine much of the focus will be on why the party should be afforded another term under them?

Brekkie let’s be honest, you evidently have an issue with the party currently picking it’s leader, so I expect that is heavily informing your view on these debates. 

The contest is becoming incredibly tight for whoever is going to get on the ballot with Sunak in the final two, so these debates are important for making or breaking the fortunes of Liz, Penny, and Kemi in particular, and will make a difference on the next few days of voting.

To be fair, although we all know where Brekkie’s political view lie or rather don’t lie. But it’s not fair to say his comment necessarily is due to any political views, I’m sure he’d say there same if there was two Labour leader or Plaid Cymru debates in three days.

Also find your use of the candidates first names a bit odd, it’s not Love Island!

Most media outlets have used and are using the candidates first names? Not sure what the problem is? You’re surely not expecting everyone to use their surnames or job titles?

They are candidates, for the position of head if the Conservative party and thus the Prime Minister of the UK. 

What else would you call them? Contestants? LOL

Moving it back to presentation and coverage.....

I guess BBC News’ Studio B (in its new current format) could host a debate of 2-5 participants, if they were all positioned along the curved newswall?

Although it’s unlikely to happen, as the BBC hosted debate is likely to happen only when the field has narrowed to fewer candidates.

And, of course, Studio B doesn’t have space for an audience per se. (not sure how much depth there is up at the balcony level).

But, since they’ve invested heavily in the studio and set, why not press it into wider use.

The news could easily decamp into E for one night, right? (Galleries permitting).
