Tim Davie is in attendance this evening in Stoke-On-Trent. News Channel captured him welcoming Rishi Sunak to the venue.

As not much happens in this little city, on hearing the debate was taking place here I walked up to have a look around the venue.
It appears that they’re using Cloudbass Outside Broadcast with a couple of vans and a couple of trucks.

Not strictly presentation related but the image on the Sky Q EPG for the debate on the BBC News Channel is of Emily Maitlis...
Those titles for the leadership debate were very nice, surely a look at what’s to come for BBC News more widely? Lots of sliding rectangles, and thankfully not a circle in site!

Looking very ITV news I thought.
I think the BBC have stitched them up with that opening shot though. That’ll be shared massively on social media

Indeed. Quite why either of their teams let that go ahead baffles me, what a strange opening.
I also can’t help but feel the format of this is a mess, it’s absolute chaos.
So far we’ve had two people from the audience contribute, so we went into cost of living, then suddenly we went into taxation, then Faisal came in for a bit, then Rayworth struggled to control them, then Chris came in, Rayworth struggled again.
The lack of set questions means we are all over the shop, and it’s also causing the two candidates to tear lumps out of each other which is pretty unedifying, and Rayworth is not making much of an effort to keep that under control.
It really is rather different to the tight, structured ITV format.

Cloudbass also do Question Time (and BBC Scotland's Debate Night) - so not surprising they're out there tonight.
They've got good use out of those BBC-branded lecterns over the years, haven't they?

I thought they looked like a mix of ITV News & Good Morning Britain.

I agree, I thought Raworth would have controlled this far better. It looks as though one of the candidates is directing the debate, and it's beginning to grate.
