I presume in that situation they would try and reserve many of the tickets for Ukrainians with the audience not much more British than a usual contest

The audience is very much international anyway.

Hosting aside hope the UK now pushes on, though as last time we had some vague success we followed it up by sending Engelbert Humperdink I wouldn't take anything for granted.

I hope the BBC continue to involve their Eurovision acts around Europe like Sam did earlier this year. I also think that we are taking this contest a lot more seriously now.

I do find it a bit mad that our act tours press in Europe every single year, considering we don’t even give them a slot on a chat show.. let alone any European acts in the lead up!

That hasn't been confirmed by the EBU so as far as we know that isn't the venue. That is probably what Zelenskyy has said.

Considering the fact Mariupol is in ruins and occupied by the Russian Army at the moment it would be rather optimistic to be able to host it there next year.

Spain and Sweden have both already put their bids in to host next year.

I wouldnt be surprised that the UK will be offererd to stage the competition if Ukraine are unable to do so. I say this as the UK came second that would be a good reason to take over. I would hope that Ukraine can manage to stage it as it would mean that maybe the conflict is nearly over or over.

Honestly this talk of Mariupol hosting Eurovision reminds me when back in 2016 after Ukraine's win in that year's Eurovision, the Ukrainian President talked about hosting the 2017 contest in Crimea.........and they ended up hosting it in Kyiv instead

Considering there isn't currently a bidding process for 2023 it's more like they've offered to host if the need arises...

The problem with western Ukraine hosting is not infrastructure as that is fine (through Lviv bid for 2017 was an relatively complex adaption of a football stadium) but the risk of air raids and getting travel insurance.
