He’s had a great run on Pointless, not many TV execs are able to make the jump to TV presenter.
Will be interesting to see who they have in mind to replace him.
I've always felt like recording quiz shows must be super boring – a back to back, samey process. By that token, I'm surprised he has lasted as long as he did (if true). But then, that reflects my own dislike for viewing quiz shows too.

Plus doubling up at that process in recent years because he has done 100 odd episodes a year of House of Games!
Good to hear that is continuing. I know they say it'll continue with guest hosts rotating, but could this be a good excuse to freshen things up a bit? Surely Pointless doesn't need that slot all year round? Could try a few different shows out there.
Not surprised really given how many episodes of House of Games they film a year.
Only thing now is it'll make the very frequent repeats even more noticeable so I suspect they'll hold back episodes with the new co-host as long as they can, perhaps till next year, so they can get a good stockpile of new eps out and try and avoid switching to repeats with Richard.

Oh they're going down that route. Why can't the BBC especially just hire replacements nowadays. Auditions should be off screen, not on screen.
Agree ideally they'd mix it up more at 5.15pm given how frequently Pointless is in repeats but at the very least a complete new look would be nice. It did have one refresh but that was very much an evolution of the original studio and graphics.

Interesting that Richard is still doing Pointless Celebrities, I wouldn't be surprised if he decides to step away from that as well and just do House of Games.

I do see where Brekkie is coming from though.
In the last few year alone we’ve had months of guest hosts on The One Show. They’ve given the Sunday Morning show to someone else before deciding on the permanent host & now the Political Editor job is without.
Very rarely recently do the BBC seem to go from Person A to Person B for a job
I like Richard and I'm glad he's still doing the celebrity editions, but I think having guest presenters (a bit like Countdown's Dictionary Corner, I assume) will help keep the show feeling fresh.

But it's not every BBC show, Mastermind went from John Humphry to Clive Myrie without guest hosts for example it seems like complaining for the sake of complaining.
It's raising an increasingly common issue and your example of Mastermind shows exactly why they should replace one host with another. Would Mastermind have benefited from a series of guest hosts instead of one - no. Why would pointless be any different?
However him continuing with the celebrity version kind of goes someway to explaining why they might be going down that route, but having different hosts on daytime to the celeb version is no different to Countdown, and I think we've seen if before where a host quits the daytime version but carries on with primetime episodes.

Yes, guest hosts could really help this out a lot actually and make the show interesting again. I'd never pick Pointless over The Chase these days whereas back in the day I really loved Pointless, it just got incredibly stale. At least this will give it some variety.
Richard's role on Pointless is very different to Alexander's, if it was the latter who had quit then they wouldn't have any issue finding a single replacement but Richard's role is just explaining the different answers and how many points it would have scored and that can be filled by anyone and I suspect the average viewer won't care if there is a different person filling the Richard role.
