Discussion about CNN International,
CNN US and the other CNN channels around the world.
Does anyone know why there was only one edition of Quest Means Business on CNN International last week and why it was replaced by a CNN US simulcast on the other days?
QMB only aired on Thursday and was presented by Hala Gorani.
Is it a technical, manning or logistical reason why the programme can be on one day and not the others in a week, when there was no big breaking news to take priority, nor any other obvious reason for the US simulcast?
Even when Richard Quest wasn't available, previously they would have still produced the programme and used a cover presenter, such as Julia Chatterley, Zain Asher, etc.

I don't know why. They are very inconsistent with the covers and simulcasts. Quest is probably filming either a Business Traveller or World of Wonder episode but you would have thought that there was someone there to cover. Last two weeks were a bit over a place anyway with Quest Means Business airing after the closing bell has gone but Connect The World and First Move moving an hour earlier thanks to the clock changes.
From TV Forum but with an extra bit of LIVE in the middle.

First Move has been cancelled because CNN International is simulcasting CNN US's coverage of the Floyd trial.
Although they are still on the Sky EPG, I'm pretty sure Connect the World and Quest Means Business (again) will be dropped too.

I believe CNN is only carrying Opening Statements live. The remainder of the trial will be broadcast on HLN and online. Other outlets are adopting similar strategies.
CNNI programmes do seem to be dropped with little rhyme, warning or reason. It did used to be the case that if Richard was on leave or filming something they'd get somebody else to cover as you say but the last or so they seem to not air it full stop if he's off.Meridian MR wrote: ↑29 Mar 2021, 11:00 Continuing the discussion about CNN International,

I'd like to hope with the Floyd murder trial that CNN would air important sections of it live but largely stick to their usual International programmes (and summarise it there which is IMO more useful than hours of contextless, continouous trial footage) but recent experience leads to beleive it's more likely the remaining International shows will be thrown out the window to simulcast the trial in full. Understandably Domestic will go heavy on the story and I wouldn't be surprised if they aired the entire trial in place of their usual programmes. There's no doubt that it's a major story that does merit heavy coverage.

Wasn't HLN designed for the exact opposite - to literally bring "Headline News" rather than hours of live coverage at the expense of other news?LivefromORL wrote: ↑29 Mar 2021, 15:16 I believe CNN is only carrying Opening Statements live. HLN was home to Nancy Grace wasn't it?Brekkie wrote: ↑30 Mar 2021, 00:06Wasn't HLN designed for the exact opposite - to literally bring "Headline News" rather than hours of live coverage at the expense of other news?LivefromORL wrote: ↑29 Mar 2021, 15:16 I believe CNN is only carrying Opening Statements live. Jim Acosta will be starting his Newsroom weekend shows from this Saturday at 3pm ET. 8pm UK
There's also a few changes to the CNNi schedule from next Monday which I don't know is temporary. (I think the probably are based on that they are I think work around the trial of Derek Chauvin) But here it is in UK time.
11am-12:30pm: New Day simulcast
12:30pm-1pm: World Sport
1pm-2pm: Connect The World
2pm-3pm: First Move
3pm-3:30pm: Connect The World
3:30pm-6pm: Newsroom Simulcast
6pm-7pm: Quest Means Business
7pm-8pm: Amanpour
8pm onwards: US Simulcast

Interesting that the press release indicated that he'd anchor 3-6 both days, looks like someone came to their senses about cutting Fred to 1 hour. Also disappointed to see a new graphics package for Newsroom/US is not in the works for the relaunch of daytime/weekends.

It's really sad to see how CNN International's schedules have reduced to just pure domestic simulcasts most of the time. They had some great shows and changes such as Your World Today with Cyril and Isa at the start of 2020.

Some news about former (great) CNN journalist Isha Sesay...

Former CNNI Anchor, Correspondent Isha Sesay Named CEO of OkayMedia
OkayMedia, the digital publisher dedicated to covering and uplifting global Black culture, has hired former CNN International anchor Isha Sesay as its new chief executive.
“I’m so thrilled to be joining the OkayMedia family,” Sesay said in a statement. “This is an exciting company that has long done great work that I have admired. I can’t wait to bring to life all my ideas to expand our content offerings and ways to expose this fantastic brand to even more people in Africa and beyond.”
Sesay called CNN home from 2005-2018. During that time, she was an anchor for CNNI in Atlanta and later Los Angeles, and a correspondent for AC360. She is also well-known for her fearless coverage of #BringBackOurGirls, reporting on the kidnapping of 200 schoolgirls by Boko Haram in northeastern Nigeria back in 2014. She earned a Peabody for her journalism on the topic in 2015, as well as Gracie Award for Outstanding Anchor.
Prior to CNN, Sesay worked at ITV, anchoring the early morning news program and news reports for morning show GMTV.
In her new role, Sesay will also be launching SPKN/WRD, a new content production arm owned and operated by OkayMedia.
The boutique production outfit will bring global voices and fresh perspectives to the forefront, across feature films, documentaries, TV, podcasting and publishing.
Based in New York, OkayMedia verticals include OkayAfrica and Okayplayer, which analyze Black news, culture, lifestyle content, and music discovery.
Okayplayer, the progressive music site, was founded by The Roots front-man Amir “Questlove” Thompson in 1999.
The company’s previous CEO, Abiola Oke, resigned last year amid allegations by several women of sexual misconduct, Questlove announced on Instagram.
