The Living Room - feature an extra large eviction loveseat (interesting). YOu can see the new lighting and the new ceilings heading toward the bedrooms. The big "Feature" wall its quite dead this year. Just a cinderblock wall and some palms. Looking closer there seems to be some sort of mural but you cant see it because they didnt light it. Another missed design oppoutunity.

The actor Frank Williams, who has died aged 90, was best known as the Rev Timothy Farthing in Dad’s Army, one of the BBC’s most popular TV series.

He joined Dad’s Army, which ran from 1968 to 1977 (and has rarely been off the screen since), at the start of the third series, in 1969, when the vicar’s church hall in Walmington-on-Sea was commandeered by the elderly platoon for drill and strategic planning. It was not an arrangement Farthing welcomed.


Williams once described his time in Dad's Army as the 'happiest period of his professional life'.

His passing leaves Ian Lavender as the only original cast member of Dad's Army still alive.  Most of the cast of the show died in the 1980s.

Just wondering people's thoughts on the current state of play in Television and the possibilities going forward. Obviously a transition to digital viewing whether it's Sky or cable or streaming services has been going on for a long time now but to me it seems things have really snowballed in the last couple of years, especially since 2020. The soaps have been on a downward trajectory for many years but they seem to be completely collapsing now, not least EastEnders. A new drama can be considered a success on 2-3 million viewers these days. Even taking catch up into account doesn't account for all the lost viewers - they're not just tuning out of certain shows or channels, they're tuning out full stop. But then Eurovision can attract 10 million seemingly out of nowhere.

Is the audience permanently fragmenting and going off to Netflix and all the other streaming services to watch things when it suits and will watch whatever's put in front of them or are many people going off TV altogether unless there's a blockbuster hit that everyone is talking about? What does this mean for the broadcast model in the medium to long term - so many hours to fill, money to be made, but without the audiences to justify it? And why are apparently successful streamers like Netflix so coy about their audience figures? I see Netflix are now sharing how many hours of a show has been watched but that still doesn't really tell us the full story does it?

Also is there a danger of us becoming even more Americanised by the Netflix model? Packed full of American (and other international) shows, and even the British Netflix formats are very American in tone. It's all well and good audiences having seemingly endless choice, but it does need to be paid for and sustainable funding models in place. Is the BBC doomed? Is continuing drama? Are mass audiences going to become consigned to history outside live sport and events? How will watching quality BBC content on Netflix work if there is no BBC around to commission and produce the distinctive work?
