Sky Q and Faceplates - Bennyboy84 - 31-12-2021 Going from Virgin to Sky in the next couple of weeks as I’ve had enough of Virgin. There is already a dish which appears to be feeding into the loft. Apparently there is a distribution box up there that it was connected to which feeds a faceplate in the lounge. I’m guessing since this sounds like quite an old set up that Sky Q won’t work with this so they’ll need to bypass this and go straight from dish to lounge? Sky Q and Faceplates - RR - 31-12-2021 Assuming the wiring works, it may well just be a question of replacing the LNB on the dish. Most Sky Q installations use existing wiring. Sky Q and Faceplates - Spencer - 31-12-2021 Sky Q requires two feeds from the dish, usually via a twin coaxial cable. If there’s only one socket on your faceplate, this won’t be sufficient. If it’s a double socket, you might be in luck. It sounds to me as if your system might well have a filters and combiners to 'multiplex' the terrestrial TV signal (i.e Freeview) with a satellite dish LNB feed down a single cable. If so, it certainly won't work with Sky Q (which as pointed out also needs two feeds from the dish LNB as well) (Sky Q's LNBs convert the signal down to a lower frequency, which is also in the top end of the terrestrial UHF band, and that causes a number of issues in itself for some homes) Sky Q and Faceplates - Bennyboy84 - 31-12-2021 Markymark post_id=60971 time= user_id=1078 Wrote:Bennyboy84 post_id=60904 time= user_id=1348 Wrote:Going from Virgin to Sky in the next couple of weeks as I’ve had enough of Virgin. I haven’t seen what is up there yet but when I tried both of the faceplates in the lounge one of them picked up full Freeview, no satellite channels (as our lounge tv has built in freesat as well). The double one only one side worked for Freeview only and picked up just 9 channels, the other side of it did nothing at all and again no satellite channels. The dish itself does have the double coax attached to it so sounds like that system isn’t connected properly anyway. The installer will (quite rightly) ignore all that, and run a new dual-cable, to a new dish and LNB. Make sure they take their shoes off when indoors. Took the old bits away presumably to recycle them |
