The Gay Byrne Irish Television Thread 2.0 - bkman1990 - 27-11-2021 As we have moved over from TVForum.uk to TV Live Forum earlier this year; I thought it would be a good idea to start up a new megathread discussing the presentation of the main PSB channels in The Republic of Ireland including Oireachtas TV and Premier Sports Ireland. The 1st big development within this thread is about TG4. The Irish Times have reported last Friday that TG4 are to setup a new linear kids channel called Cula4 in the near future. The new channel will contain Irish Language Content for kids who live all over Ireland. They have appointed a new channel manager to oversee the future launch of the channel on TV platforms in Ireland. https://www.irishtimes.com/business/media-and-marketing/tg4-to-appoint-kids-channel-manager-and-boost-current-affairs-content-1.4733393?mode=sample&auth-failed=1&pw-origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.irishtimes.com%2Fbusiness%2Fmedia-and-marketing%2Ftg4-to-appoint-kids-channel-manager-and-boost-current-affairs-content-1.4733393 TG4 have received funding of €4.2 million. They will use the money to launch the channel & to enhance TG4's news & current affairs output. The Gay Byrne Irish Television Thread 2.0 - Rdd - 27-11-2021 New Christmas ident for RTE One debuted before the Toy Show last night. The Gay Byrne Irish Television Thread 2.0 - AJB39 - 27-11-2021 I thought it was a quite a dull Christmas ident really. It’s good news that they are going to boost their news & current affairs content which is generally excellent. The Gay Byrne Irish Television Thread 2.0 - bkman1990 - 29-11-2021 The imminent launch of Sky News on Saorview from this Tuesday has removed the HD test channel on LCN 14 earlier this week. It makes sense at this point that the HD channel had to come off the platform to save it's limited bandwidth. One of the things that Saorview haven't done yet in the Republic of Ireland is to broadcast in the T2 transmission standard like what Freeview is doing in the UK. If any new channels like Culá4 were to launch on Saorview in future; the people running Saorview, which is 2rn, would now have to consider telling people to retune their equipment so that all of the Saorview channels will be allowed to be broadcast in the T2 standard so that they can be more efficient with their broadcasting bandwidth. The question that should be asked is when that will happen for Saorview users in the Republic of Ireland? The Gay Byrne Irish Television Thread 2.0 - Rdd - 29-11-2021 Will that really be a problem, given that this is a platform with 12 TV channels and this is the first new channel launch in almost six years? There isn’t exactly a queue to join it. The Gay Byrne Irish Television Thread 2.0 - bkman1990 - 10-12-2021 The 1st 4 contestants for the new season of Dancing with the Stars Ireland in 2022 have been unveiled to the public on The Late Late Show. There isn’t exactly a queue to join it. No. I don't think that would be a big problem in Ireland. There are lots of TV's sold in Irish stores today that offer T2 transmission offered to anyone who wants to buy one. My current TV at the moment built in with Saorview has T2 capability provided in it. The TV was manufactured in the UK but I bought it in Dublin over 3 years ago. If 2rn sent out an ad campaign to re-tune their Saorview channels on their equipment at home; I wouldn't have to replace my TV at anytime. It will work perfectly well for Saorview T2 transmission in the future. It the perfect future proofer so to speak. The Gay Byrne Irish Television Thread 2.0 - Rdd - 10-12-2021 I think the point was missed - theres no need to move to DVB-T2 because there’s no pressure in terms of space on Saorview. There are unlikely to be many new channels launching even if a separate Cula4 channel does come to fruition. Right now they're still broadcasting a 24 hour testcard on Channel 51, The Saorview info station on 29? and RTE 2 +1 broadcasts a holding caption for 12 hours a day. You could get two new SD channels on the system tomorrow and Cula 4 could timeshare with RTE 2 +1. But on current trends, the next new station on Saorview will appear in 2027! The Gay Byrne Irish Television Thread 2.0 - bkman1990 - 27-12-2021 There are refreshed promos airing on RTÉ One today. https://twitter.com/RTEOne/status/1475432270898991108?s=20 I know this one has the Christmas background. There is a new one out for The Change Makers with RTÉ One's usual bright blue background with all of the text in the middle on the endboard like the promo linked above. The Gay Byrne Irish Television Thread 2.0 - Rdd - 31-12-2021 RTE One is 60 today, although it seems like it will be a very quiet commemoration in comparison with previous anniversaries which had theme nights, special presentation etc. These days it seems we’ll have to make do with some articles on the website. The Gay Byrne Irish Television Thread 2.0 - gottago - 31-12-2021 Here's what appears to be the first thing broadcast on RTE which was a thoroughly miserable speech by its president. Opening night schedule underneath as well. The Gay Byrne Irish Television Thread 2.0 - Rick - 01-01-2022 It's a shame they haven't used the 60th anniversary to bring back some older idents for a mini celebration. It would also be nice if RTE revamped their on screen look for RTÉ ONE which has been using the same SD upscaled idents for around 15 years now. Even if the idents have HD footage, the RTÉ ONE logo that appears on them is certainly not crisp HD. A corporate logo refresh would be great too, and a nicer look for RTÉ TWO. I've never warmed to it's current look, I felt the old "green room" idents were so much better and had lots of potential before they started introducing poor surrounding presentation for them which made them feel less special. |
