Sci-fi and Fantasy on Freeview - Dogorilla - 13-11-2021 Sci-fi and fantasy TV series are very popular on streaming services these days but, as a fan of the genre who prefers conventional TV, I thought it would be good to have a thread for discussing SFF on free-to-air channels, whether it's a brand new series, a film premiere or a repeat of a classic. It can be quite difficult to keep track of when repeat runs, and even some new series, are starting, so hopefully this thread will be useful for that as well. Case in point: I only just found out that season 3 of Batwoman starts tomorrow at 11:05pm on E4. I know this show has been maligned by some corners of the internet but I quite like it personally (although it's now slightly tainted by the allegations of misconduct behind the scenes). Looking forward to seeing Poison Ivy's introduction to the series. Any other SFF fans here? What have you been watching recently, and what are you looking forward to? Sci-fi and Fantasy on Freeview - Brekkie - 13-11-2021 I guess E4 signed up for the length of the series on Batwoman then rather than what used to be a quite common two season deal for new US shows as really given the scheduling suspect this is one they'd have been happy for Sky to come in and poach. Yeah, possibly. The second season started off airing pre-watershed for some reason but then they moved it to about midnight halfway through, so I guess it wasn't doing great. It might be that even Sky isn't interested in the Arrowverse shows any more though, as they haven't picked up Superman and Lois as far as I know. Sci-fi and Fantasy on Freeview - JAS84 - 14-11-2021 NOBODY's picked up Superman & Lois! I find it hard to believe that no channel wanted a Superman show. :? Sci-fi and Fantasy on Freeview - The Master - 14-11-2021 It appears the BBC have picked up Superman and Lois. According to Digiguide, Superman & Lois will be airing on BBC One from December 4, 2021 at 5:40pm. I suspect it will be a one off and the rest on BBC Three on iPlayer Sci-fi and Fantasy on Freeview - Dogorilla - 14-11-2021 The Master post_id=53498 time= user_id=2398 Wrote:It appears the BBC have picked up Superman and Lois. I can't find any mention of that anywhere else, but it's good news if it's true! Sci-fi and Fantasy on Freeview - channelbox - 14-11-2021 It would make sense to have it on Saturday evening at that time as Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (Lois & Clark was removed from the title on the BBC), ran on BBC One on Saturday evenings (and also on CBBC Saturday mornings before Live & Kicking) during the 90s. Sci-fi and Fantasy on Freeview - Stuart - 14-11-2021 Blake's 7 is currently up to series 4 on Forces TV.
Sci-fi and Fantasy on Freeview - Brekkie - 15-11-2021 Interesting news on Superman & Lois. It'll rate terribly of course but still better than any previous Arrowverse premiere I imagine and given all we complain about the BBC doing the same thing week in week out they should be praised for at least trying something different. Feel it would have made more sense though to hold it back for the relaunch of BBC3. Will be interesting to see how long Batwoman remains this side of midnight on E4. They've taken to bumping many US shows to around 2am in the morning lately to make way for more reruns of Gogglebox and Naked Attraction. The trouble is these dramas, and comedies too, have to stand up pretty much on their own nowadays and viewers are expected to find them when a decade ago you had three or four US dramas of a similar ilk on E4 each week at 9pm, so viewers knew to expect them their and the shows somewhat supported each other. And if you prefer slightly more sciencey sci-fi (this isn't exactly a rare showing, but just in case anyone's interested) Star Trek: The Next Generation is starting from the beginning next Tuesday at 5pm on Pick. The next four episodes are on BBC One on December 11, December 18, December 23, and December 31. Presumably it then reverts to Saturdays starting on January 8. All episodes will also be on iPlayer tomorrow. Sci-fi and Fantasy on Freeview - Dogorilla - 04-12-2021 I must say, it feels like a bit of a novelty watching a big new US drama on BBC One in the early evening. That doesn't happen very often these days. Sci-fi and Fantasy on Freeview - Brekkie - 04-12-2021 Not sure there has even been one in the early evening on BBC1 since the New Adventures of Superman and Due South back in the 90s (not sure which aired first). Nice to see them do something different but it'll likely rate worse than Partners in Rhyme, but suspect series 2, assuming they've picked that up, was always destined for BBC3 anyway. Sci-fi and Fantasy on Freeview - JAS84 - 06-12-2021 Season 2 starts in the US before they finish airing season 1 here. If they're smart, they'd just air them back to back. Retain the audience. Do we know the overnight viewing figures for the first episode? |
