BBC Children in Need 2021 - RhysJR - 13-10-2021
BBC Children in Need's fundraising campaign has launched ahead of the live TV broadcast on November 19th.
As part of the launch a video with a group of famous people talk about their uprinings along with a survey highlighting the affects of the pandemic on the lives of children - the focus of this year's campaign.

The first fundraising event announced is that weatherman and presenter Owain Wyn-Evans will be drumming for 24 hours on the 12th Novemeber.

In terms of the live show itself, I'm sure it's been said in these parts many times before, but I feel it has become a bit lack lusture over the years and hopefully there will be some changes to the show this year, or certainly by next year if the pandemic has made it hard to plan any improvements. One of the big questions surrounding the show is if any live programming returns in the post-news slot after being absent last year; I sadly feel that may be a permanent change.

Yes, I do hope that it is a proper telethon and not cut off early once again, which effectively cuts off at least £10m from the final total.
It's Stand Up to Cancer this Friday and good to see that goes right through to about 2am.

I don't think going off air early is entirely to blame for that. How many people lost their jobs before last year's CIN? Due to COVID, or due to retailers going bust? Those people might normally have donated money but couldn't.

After Dianne Oxberry's tragic death, I wondered how on Earth NWT could replace someone so iconic...well, Owain was an inspired choice. They could not have done better.
(I lived in Manchester for many years , but now live in Leicester - in case anyone is baffled by my user panel stating East Midlands Today!)

Schedules obviously not confirmed yet but having had a quick glance at the audience ticket call-out on the BBC Shows and Tours site, it’s looking like the shorter show may indeed become the norm with the audience in from 7pm until 10pm.

I wonder who the presenters will be this year then as since Wogan passed away they have not managed to get anyone who is permanent instead going from one line up to another each year I think only Mel from Mel and Sue is the only one who has lasted for a few years they need to find a new figure head presenter which hopefully the move to Salford and a revamp might bring.
The rickshaw challenge was and possibly still is a good idea but it been to death now they need to find a new challenge because like with the show itself the last few years it has gone stale. The only two parts of the telethon I would actually keep are the children choir and the regional opt outs everything else has badly been in need of a revamp for years and ironically last year due to covid was one of the better telethons it’s had. So more sketch’s and daft games in the studio alongside the music performances and a few more pre recorded bits would actually work they could also show live performances of note from the regions. The 7-9 hour could even have some stuff from CBBC such as crackerjack or Dick n Dom doing bits they plenty what could be done if they put the effort in.

It felt eerily familiar of what the changed that started being made to Comic Relief from 2017 onwards

Chris Ramsey was the star from the previous year’s Strictly that the BBC always seem obligated to use, so I expect Chris not to reappear and for someone like Bill Bailey to be involved this year

It just needs that link to something like Wogan give it a link to the Radio 2 breakfast show. It's not the most interesting of choices but I think basing it around the core One Show presenting team, with a couple of extras, would at least give it greater consistency from year to year.
It would be a shame if once again they do nothing after the news - just having a live version of Graham Norton's show through to midnight would at least be something, and probably better viewing than what they often churn out.
