Recently discovered this website due to the fire at Red Bee, so thought I'd make a thread about a hobby of mine. Hopefully it's allowed.
In this thread, we discuss logos found on British TV channels. The reason why I decided to make this thread is because I think it would be fun and interesting to try get more users on this forum into logo hunting and also the fact that not a lot of people at the CLG Wiki (the main logo community wiki) are British. Most, if not all the logo finding threads on the old CLG Wiki are for American TV channels, one bloke did try making a "The British TV Thread" but the thread was very inactive and he was the only one who ever posted on it.
The main reason why I like finding logos on TV channels currently is because it's interesting seeing what prints TV channels use of stuff, not to mention a lot of logos are pretty rare to find on TV nowadays due to lack of older stuff airing on TV. For example, Wild Geese II (1985), which aired on TCM several days ago, ended with a Viacom logo, the one that debuted in 1986 known as the V of Steel, meaning the print TCM got was a 1986-1990 syndicated print (pretty rare to see this happen with Cannon films nowadays, they usually use Paramount/MGM era prints when reran nowadays).

Right now, GREAT! Movies Christmas premiere the 2001 TV Movie "Call Me Claus" starring Whoopi Goldberg. This movie has a chance of keeping Columbia TriStar Television at the end (a pretty hard logo to find on TV nowadays, but the Distribution logo can be seen on Crazy Like a Fox over on GREAT! TV (plastering (replacing) the Columbia Pictures Television logo from the era), while the regular/Domestic variants can be seen on The King of Queens episodes whenever Channel 4 or Comedy Central air them, and the TV Movie Christmas Rush whenever the Virgin Channels in Ireland play it). However there is a chance the CTT logo will be plastered by the Sony Pictures Television logo, as I do know several prints of this movie have this logo instead (some even having the Sony Pictures Television International logo). Update in roughly two hours on whenever the CTT logo was kept or not.
I understand that this interest may be an obscure one, so I understand if the thread gets removed or isn't that active very much, but it would be nice to see other people in this forum hunt for old logos on TV. It sounds like a weird hobby but it's actually pretty fun as you never know what will appear.

It used to be the case that prints/dubs/copies were cycled around various broadcasters, this was true of the 1960s and Doctor Who for example (and indeed the cycling around often meant the prints were saved in an archive somewhere after the BBC wiped their own copy).
On syndication copies though, it may depend on whether anybody notices (or cares) as to what goes out. American companies don't seem as fussed about this as we do and you can still see old Touchstone Television end-caps (the little blue circle with the lightning bolt) on a lot of archive Disney material from the 1990s.
Over here of course its like "Made by Carlton? Yeah, let's upgrade that to ITV Studios and pretend it existed years before it did".

Ah, a fellow CLG Wiki member! Wasn't expecting to see any over here, but I guess it makes sense there'd be somewhat of an overlap between the two communities. I don't have much to contribute to this thread but I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it.

Not a CLG Wiki member sadly. I browse the wiki often but I don't have an account on there. Anyways Call Me Claus kept Columbia TriStar Television! No Sony Pictures Television either which I find very interesting. Hopefully GREAT! airs more old Sony TV Movies soon. Nothing else too interesting on GREAT! Christmas. Ever since 2020 that station has been airing nothing too interesting logo wise.

The Longest Yard is currently on Comedy Central (aka the Friends channel). I saw this before and it has the Sony Pictures Television International logo at the end, which is pretty rare to see end up theatrical films. Will record the movie and provide a screenshot of it tomorrow.

Disney are good at keeping Touchstone Television logos intact. Also true, ITV tend to replace end caps a lot but I have seen them keep older logos intact at times too

You may want to check out the old 4:3 episodes of Judge Judy, on CBS Reality 27hrs a day 9 days a week, some legacy endcaps there. The older pre-Beethoven theme episodes don't appear to be on air anymore but there's a few on YouTube, but a very quick look seems to suggest it didn't change too much, though the show's presentation itself did.

I think they only air post 2006 episodes currently. Some episodes may have the first CBS Paramount Television logo with the theme though, something pretty rare to come across, however I'm not sure.
TG4 in Ireland recently added The Golden Girls and The Wonder Years to their schedules. Logo wise The Golden Girls should have a couple Buena Vista rainbow/blue castles, while The Wonder Years might have some New World logos.

Today's Golden Girls had a Touchstone Television/Buena Vista Blue Castle while The Wonder Years had... the 2008 20th Television logo...
Was really expecting TWY to keep New World as I knew that 20th Television doesn't really appear outside the USA. TG4 must have gotten DVD prints of those two shows. Also, today's Golden Girls had the Touchstone copyright notice misspelt as "Touchtone"

Gonna check the rest of the Golden Girls on TG4 to see if any episodes use a rainbow castle. I know most Channel 5 airings of the show when they aired it last year during the COVID-19 lockdown had the blue castle but I do know some episodes use the rainbow castle.

Thought I'd showcase this old capture, the Viacom V of Doom making an elusive British appearance, seen during a 7th January 2019 CBS Drama airing of the Gunsmoke episode "Like Old Times".
Sadly, don't expect this to air soon. CBS Drama/Justice haven't aired Gunsmoke in nearly a year, and judging by their current schedule I doubt it'll ever return. If/when Paramount+ adds this when it comes here, I expected remastered current prints to be in use too. However the V of Doom can be seen on Amazon Prime's prints of Terror in the Wax Museum and A Cosmic Christmas.

Actually a thought occurred to me, those "Paramount 90th anniversaries" end-caps (you can see at least one in the Judge Judy video I posted) are ripe for retro-editing. Similar for Warner Bros 75th anniversary which did appear on a lot of programming at the time and probably still sits on old prints somewhere (mostly film I dare say)
Warner Brothers, MGM and Disney all turn 100 in two/three years time (assuming MGM lasts that long considering its already been bailed out twice) so probably safe to assume another wave of temporary logos/celebrations/end-caps in due course.

What I do know is the Warner Bros. Television 75th logo appeared on a CBS Action airing of Blade Squad back in the early 2010s, but don't except this film to ever air on CBS Justice as they no longer play films as of August 2019. Shame, they aired lots of pretty rare movies (which of course, had rare logos at the end of them, when they aired Brothers of the Frontier, the 1990 Viacom logo (Wigga Wigga) appeared at the end but was in slow motion. Last night Virgin Media Two (Ireland) aired the 2000 TV Movie Love and Murder, and it ended with the CTV and Shaftesbury logos. When this film aired on the now defunct True Movies channel it also had the CTV/Shaftesbury logos, but also the Carlton America/International logo afterwards

Always confused on what their pre-launch look was like: According to Trandiffusion and later Logopedia, it should be in dark red and bright blue lines. But in the news footages (including the above), both lines are in light blue and the wordmark looked different.
