Google TV UK App Launch - AlfieMulcahy - 27-09-2021
Google TV launched as an app yesterday for UK audiences replacing Google Play Movies & TV. It works as a service aggregator that allows you to search for content across a wide range of platforms.
However, at present the UK edition only integrates with Prime Video, Disney+ & ITV Hub. This is likely to change soon as the version of Google TV seen on the latest Chromecast also supports BBC iPlayer, Netflix, My5 & Apple TV.
There have also been rumours circulating that Google TV will soon offer a list of linear TV channels, working with worldwide content partners. This would bring live TV to both the Chromecast and the app. It'll be interesting to see if Freeview get involved with this.

There are special offers in the Google Store today to mark Google's 23rd birthday, but unfortunately they've decided to exclude Chromecast with Google TV from the offer. I really wanted to upgrade one of my older Chromecasts to try this out, but will probably wait now until Black Friday or Christmas.

This could be a compelling offer though, it's increasingly difficult to stay across what programmes are where in all of these services.

Now also linking up nicely with All4. The ITV Hub integration seems to be less extensive than the integration with All4.
BBC iPlayer, Netflix, My5, UKTV Play and Netflix are all still missing however.

Hopefully, other services do crop up on the app but when they do, plus the rumour of "linear channels", I think it'll give Sky Q and Sky Glass a run for it's money, literally.
Especially considering that from what I've seen from the app, you can add things to the watchlist and also buy episodes direct from Google TV.
