Saturday Night Takeaway 2021 - iloveTV1 - 29-03-2021 The last episode is this week, so thought I’d start a thread to continue the discussion. If you missed it, it has been said on Twitter that the Maddy Taylor segment from the recent episode was scripted: https://twitter.com/greenlynchy/status/1376152798472048640?s=21 For the first time since 2015, the final episode of the show will come live from the studio (last years was done over zoom). Just a question as well, has anyone been in the virtual audience for this - what is it like? I’ve seen a behind the scenes video on it and I’m very intrigued by it all. I was in the virtual audience for the episode with Cat Deeley. It was so fun and the warmup guy was so good at what he was doing. I signed up again so I'd hope to be in it again for the final show. Saturday Night Takeaway 2021 - Josh - 29-03-2021 Can we verify the claim that this was set up? Anyone could go on Twitter and say it was set up. Saturday Night Takeaway 2021 - Loydy - 29-03-2021 I really can't see them setting up this and having an actress play the part of a viewer being set up, not with the previous controversies the show has had with phone line rigging. Saturday Night Takeaway 2021 - Multi - 29-03-2021 I have to admit, the girl’s confidence was incredibly jarring and seemed very well rehearsed, which is why I presume so many were speculating she was an actress. But I actually found the set up quite funny  Saturday Night Takeaway 2021 - XIII - 29-03-2021 I would assume if you've been selected beforehand, you'd be rehearsed within an inch of your life so that things can go smoothly. Saturday Night Takeaway 2021 - mediaone - 29-03-2021 i agree, she didn't seem surpirsed at all and it all felt a bit fake and staged I thought. Saturday Night Takeaway 2021 - Ash101 - 29-03-2021 Is that really the best stories they could come up with, if it was fake? She left her mum to look after her kids while she went out for dinner.... :? I do wonder how she caught their attention though. Out of everyone who must put people forward for surprise. Whereas the teacher one earlier this series definitely deserved it. Saturday Night Takeaway 2021 - iloveTV1 - 01-04-2021 I see Ant and Dec got their April Fools Day prank in: https://mobile.twitter.com/antanddec/status/1377484300770234369 Saturday Night Takeaway 2021 - Larry the Loafer - 01-04-2021 The trouble with these gotcha things with members of the public is that it needs to find a mid point where the stories make for good entertainment, but also show they're deserving of a holiday or whatever prize they get. The teacher was deserving but I can't say it was a particular exciting watch, nor the couple who won a house from the last series (I think). Most of the criticism on Twitter regarding last week's show was that the woman was being rewarded for doing pretty horrific things. When the show was in its heyday you'd have average Joes being surprised by people they knew and having something embarrassed revealed about them. The embarrassment would then be alleviated when they got a prize at the end of it for their troubles. They can't seem to find that mid point anymore. It's either sweet but dull, or exciting but undeserving. Saturday Night Takeaway 2021 - Ash101 - 01-04-2021 To be fair, didn't the teacher one involve ex-students doing stuff for her without her knowledge? So at least it played into that part of it happening in 'secret'. Last weekends one just totally missed the mark on so many levels, like you say, she was not deserving of the big series prize. Saturday Night Takeaway 2021 - onetrickypony - 01-04-2021 I'm surprised she didn't end with "don't forget to hit that subscribe button if you like my content." Overall I've really enjoyed this series of SNT and it's probably the best use of virtual audience I've seen. Saturday Night Takeaway 2021 - TVViewer256 - 01-04-2021 As the series comes to an end at the weekend, my thoughts: - There's been a range of good and bad episodes this series, I didn't think the last one was *that* bad (excluding the Ross Kemp mockumentary item which I thought would've been much better had the woman been genuinely surprised to be on) - I think the virtual audience wasn't too bad after they ironed out the delay issues, but it's definitely better with a real one. Agreed however that the virtual audience use has been good given the circumstances. - Some series episodes have had a lot more energy than the previous few. This was especially apparent in the Cat Deely one, which could've easily been an SNT episode from years ago judging from the energy (although this could've been just due to the reunion) - They've had some pretty decent end-of-the-show-show guests, such as Tom Jones and Rag N'Bone Man - The series is obviously still rating very well, so I'd expect bosses are fairly happy with it as it is. All in all, given the circumstances, I don't think it's been a bad series. |
