A shame some of the OB studios outside Buckingham Palace are looking a little rough and ready. Sky News have put a bit of lino down which is peeling up, whereas BBC News have used a few cable ties to attach a dodgy looking branded banner to their stand.

In fairness, what they were told they'd get and what they were given by event organisers are, more often than not, worlds apart.

Meanwhile Katty Kay returns, anchoring on the NC.

Broadcasters had much better set ups with their studios in 2012.  Having to work around the stage and stands for the Platinum Jubilee concert clearly hasn't helped.

Slightly off-topic but it's interesting that if you look at Royal coverage globally, a lot of the same faces pop up like Camilla Tominey, Chris Ship to name but two

The Same stands and stage was there in 2012 for the diamond jubilee concert so I’m not sure that is to blame.

Different staging this time round, there are three different stages I believe. In 2012 there was one central stage with a kind of canopy over the top:

Maybe the amount of staging has limited the view/setup available to broadcasters somewhat?

ITV News have quite a nice studio, with some branded panels and the on location desk out. The BBC’s other studio in St James Park is much nicer than their stand at the Palace, although the view from the waterside studio is a bit nondescript.

The presentation overall has been a little underwhelming so far IMO. I wonder if it’s a sign of broadcasters scaling the coverage back a little, especially in the economic climate we are in and the difficulties people are experiencing. On the other hand, however, it’s been covered by Sky News and others pretty much non-stop so maybe I’m completely wrong!

why is it that all the news presenters in boxes outside Buckingham palace have these weird head-microphones on? not lapel mics?

Probably because it's outside and noisy. Those mics are common at sports events.

Does anyone know which comment was deemed offensive and required an apology just now? on BBC One I can't say I noticed it!

Looking on Twitter. Giles had mentioned the Queen had visited Putin.
They had already gone off topic about Tom Cruise. They just need to describe what they can see.

Is it just me or are pageants just generally rubbish to watch. Lots of only very slightly impressive things one after another.

It’s really difficult to stay interested.

The commentary isn’t helping as they don’t seem to know what’s going on.

Hardly Clare Balding’s finest hour.
