Forum Problems - Rob - 12-04-2022 As you will be aware, there has been a long-standing problem where users find themselves being logged into the forum as other users. This problem has existed since the early days of the forum, and I installed a bit of code that should have resolved the problem. However, in the last couple of days, the problem has got considerably worse, despite all attempts to try and fix the problem. I am doing my best to try and fix this so that we can return to some sort of normality, but I must ask you please to be patient with me. Rude messages demanding I fix the problem immediately (like the ones I’ve received this afternoon) are not helping. I am a very busy man at the moment, and your impatience will only make matters worse. If I cannot fix the problem, then the only other alternative would be to consider other forum software. Thank you for your continued support. Forum Problems - Joe - 12-04-2022 I have no time for anyone sending you messages like that. Such people clearly have never tried to make a passion project work using their own time and resources; moreover they’re just not a very nice person. I’d say to simply ignore it, but in practice that’s not easy to do. But – sorry. It’s undeserved and such people don’t speak for the rest of us. Forum Problems - Scrotnig - 12-04-2022 Is the cache within the forum software? Or is it something running on the server, like Varnish? There's a cache on the server, but it's currently switched off. Re: Forum Problems - This is UTV - 12-04-2022 Appreciate the current ongoing faults with the site, as being logged in as other users. To my horror I was shown as being logged in as Brekkie!! Just for everyone's reassurance, can it be confirmed that no ones personal data has been compromised? I'm not sure if that is the case... on one of the past occasions I got logged in as someone else, clicking on the inbox gave me their PMs. I didn't try to see if I could actually read them, but I wouldn't have been suprised if I could. Re: Forum Problems - JAS84 - 12-04-2022 Couldn't log in an hour ago. I assume it's related to this. Re: Forum Problems - Rob - 13-04-2022 The forum is back online. Thank you for your patience whilst I work on getting things back to normal. It appears the site is back to its usual speed. I still plan to run the forum in "lite" mode for a while. This means that features like giving kudos will not be available for the time being, so PLEASE be patient. The future plan is to ditch phpBB and go with an alternative forum provider, whilst retaining all the posts from this version of the site. It'll be a while before this happens though, so I again ask you to be patient with me whilst this happens. Forum Problems - Moz - 13-04-2022 Thanks for all your hard work Rob. It’s appreciated. Forum Problems - Joe - 13-04-2022 I’m torn – I’m sad we can’t give and receive kudos; I’m also glad that I can’t feel the crushing disappointment I get when one of my high quality, illuminating, entertaining posts gets no kudos. I am thick as mince. I just tried to give you Kudos for that post and nearly reported you. How I could read a post about the inability to give kudos and try to give kudos to it shows the measure of me I think! Forum Problems - Bennyboy84 - 13-04-2022 Rob, i honestly dont know how you find time to maintain this but you do a damn fine job of it

If you instinctively went for the kudos button, you should've accidentally clicked on Quote, not Report, since the button order was Report, Quote, Kudos and the others moved one to the right when Kudos was disabled.Joe post_id=78491 time= user_id=1035 Wrote:I’m torn – I’m sad we can’t give and receive kudos; I’m also glad that I can’t feel the crushing disappointment I get when one of my high quality, illuminating, entertaining posts gets no kudos.I am thick as mince. Forum Problems - lobster - 13-04-2022 may I ask what the root cause of the issue that's causing some users to be logged in as others is? I've read in a few places that with phpbb it's caused by caching and your host seems to use stackcdn for content acceleration... can you turn it off? I manage a few websites for work and I've found host caching causes all sorts of weird problems if done too aggressively - with some caching even dynamic content which seems like asking for trouble! |
