Just watched a clip of this from 1983. I’m guessing it was replaced in less than a year because it was a awful watch ? Total mismatch of ideas all lopped together.

Worth remembering that News and Current Affairs had their own individual departments in those days where there was rivalry between the two groups.
From the clips I saw, it looked like an early attempt at using the same branding from the main set to the Look North Yorkshire studio which had a set that easily dated.
Fortunately the 6pm news is still news, with the puff elements of Sixty Minutes on The One Show.

Yes it’s a great, newly-uploaded clip covering the beginning, middle and end of the entire series. It’s clear from minute one that it had problems, but I wonder why it doesn’t ever appear in the pantheon of TV flops like Eldorado and Daybreak. It’s a real stinker

It got a bad rap for replacing Nationwide in the schedules, and it never really gained any kind of stable footing with the audience. Mind you, it also suffered a bit from trying to continue to balance the lighter side and the newsier side, much like both Nationwide, and before that Tonight with Cliff Michelmore had done. The audience was moving away from that kind of output in the early evening time, especially because Breakfast Time was now doing something similar in the morning. Essentially Sixty Minutes was just Nationwide with a new title, a fresh coat of paint, and little else.

Note the local continuity mentioning that Look North is on at 5.52. Clearly viewers had to be reassured that the regional bulletin was part of the programme.

I wonder what happened to Beverley Anderson? She was on a few current affairs programmes at the BBC around that time and I think she appeared as a guest on light entertainment shows too. She seemed to disappear without trace and with such a fairly usual name she's difficult to Google.

She had come from Channel 4's Black on Black programme, I don't know where she went to after 60 Mins, Wiki has an incorrect onward link for her

Well, thank you for highlighting this video, another triumph from the great David Baldwin whose channel is a right treasure trove. I see he uploaded extracts from a wiped Swap Shop quite recently as well.

If you'd like to know more about Sixty Minutes, there's a chapter about it The Last Days Of The Beeb by Michael Leapman, which is fascinating. The whole thing came about because they knew they wanted to axe Nationwide in favour of something a bit sharper, as Nationwide had a terrible reputation for trivia and the big bosses at the Beeb found it all a bit embarrassing.
The idea was there'd be a proper integrated news hour, and one idea was to get rid of the weird scenario with Nationwide where you had the national news, then the regional news, then the analysis of the national news, which was a bit of a strange order, and they wanted to have the two national bits together. But the regions refused to move from six o'clock because they thought it was the best slot, so if they wanted to have the two national bits together they'd either have to be before the regional news, which was too early, or after it, which seemed an equally wrong order, so it ended up being exactly the same as Nationwide and there was barely any point in doing it.
And as you say, it was a co-production between news, the regions and current affairs, all of whom hated each other and wanted to do things their own way, so it didn't hang together at all. All the regions were going to use the same theme tune and a set that looked like Sixty Minutes, apart from Southampton who were excused because they'd just had a new set. The reason Desmond Wilcox presented it was because the rest of the team was really young and inexperienced and they wanted someone with a bit of stature and experience like Frank Bough had been on Breakfast Time, but when they offered him the job he said it sounded so much like Nationwide, he wondered why they weren't just carrying on with Nationwide. One reason they convinced him was that he'd been trying to get a documentary off the ground that had been stuck in development hell for ages and they said if he did Sixty Minutes for a bit it would definitely happen, and then when he was rubbish on Sixty Minutes they told him to go and do that instead.
One reason why they axed it so quickly was because Scotland asked if they could opt out of the whole thing apart from the news, and they were told they couldn't but they'd look again at it in three months, so three months later they asked again, and they were told there was no need to do that because it was being axed anyway. When it was announced, the current affairs department lobbied hard to keep it going, not because they had any great love for the show because it had been a bit of a nightmare, but because it was their biggest show in terms of hours and audience by miles. But because it had been such a flop, the Beeb were at least able to go to the regions and tell them they were moving to 6.30 and that was that, while current affairs would make contributions to the new Six O'Clock News but news would be calling the shots, and that was the beginning of the end for the separate current affais department at the Beeb.

I think she went back to Black on Black after Sixty Minutes, and in the 1985 Virgin Television Yearbook, which I mentioned in another thread, she contributes an article reviewing the year's children's programmes, and the "about the authors" bit in the book says she was now a freelance broadcaster and was also working in education, so seemingly she decided to move into that area full-time.
