There are opinions all the way from, ‘it’s protocol that lasted one day, suck it up’, to ‘maybe BBC Two should have done it’s own thing’ to ‘99 year old man dies should have got no more than 5 mins of coverage’
It doesn’t sit right with me that some people keep making the same point over and over again, and quoting others who agree, as much as to say ‘This is my opinion, I’m right, you’re wrong, and look all these people agree as well, so you must definitely be wrong’. People aren’t going to change their views on this.

I agree that it is more of a 'spectrum' of views, I clarified in my second post that it could be more options giving a more general opinion

Also agreed, I've not stated my view on it and won't, however would be nice to have a 'count' of the broad viewpoints.

Indeed. I like the Royals, watch lots of royal documentaries, but Fridays blanket coverage was over the top. The BBC is never going to admit that though.

Given the nature of the news and the Twitter era we live in, was this the first time we were able to watch BBC One and ITV live fully anticipating an interruption? I got a text off a friend that the Duke had died and went to check Twitter to see if he was being genuine. I ran to switch on BBC One and found they hadn't broken the news, nor had ITV, but saw that BBC Two were running the story. It's a minor point, but as a pres geek, it was certainly something I don't think I've seen before and might not see again, fully expecting a network to break a major news story as it happens.

Had Parliament been in session I imagine BBC Parliament would have continued to broadcast with a ticker pointing people to BBC News. I seem to recall they did something similar for a breaking news story in the past. As it was showing repeats, the best thing for it to do was to simulcast BBC News.

In our office I saw Reuters fire on an obit piece about him at 12:03 and then checkly checked twitter to see Sky News just tweet the confirmation, So yes was a bit odd to know before the announcement on the TV!
