Agree - it's never flowed as well as they think and a promo just before the clock or ident at 6pm works just as well. Personally I'd ditch the regional opt in the main headlines but include a promo half way through instead (in a similar manner to how ITV promote the upcoming Evening News).

I'd also like to see a proper close to the national bulletins - and to vaguely get this back on topic it's surprising from a branding point of view they opt for what is effectively a "cold close". It's such a small thing but I think ITV London just having the "ITV News" endcap before cutting to the national news looks so much better than cutting from one studio straight to another, and just a bit of BBC branding in between what are actually often their two highest rated shows of the day would neaten things up IMO, and less importantly provide a nicer opt out for the news channel.

The regional news was a separate, less important programme and followed the main news after the weather.

Better days.
I think the regional tease is important; the regions are trying to draw in an audience still and they're also trying to show it's part of BBC News, but the headlines in general need tightening up. The original 1999 style headlines (and up until 2005 ish) were always tight, no pointless SOTs or vox pops - just 5/6 headlines read briefly and clearly, an opt and two quick headlines read concisely and the titles.

The issue comes with the regions; give the regions trails to show for LR or regional programmes (even Politics programmes) to make the junction cleaner - even with soft opting some regions are like a dogs dinner with it.

As for clocks, that's just the nostalgic anorak in us. We yearn for the days of an on screen clock but they won't bring it back any time soon. Maybe a digital clock with a slower background based on an ident could be something that works?

Completely disagree, what a waste of time, to be honest. I'd rather they just get on with things than throw logos and slides up, and certainly not an ident (you weren't suggesting this though). I'm pretty sure the data will back the current method up too.

The premise of the new look is nice, however I feel the idents are lacking in the energy and excitement that you get from BBC2's idents. The visual side of the idents are lovely and flow really well - however they still remind me of Oneness and can feel quite slow. The new look will launch with 5 idents, however there are 3 variations of each - so 15 in total. It's a nice change, nothing extraordinary - just nice.
I rate them 7/10.

This is as I feared when I read they were looking specific groups of people to film things. Can't we have nice non-live actions idents for a change? We've had people since 2006 appearing on screen for BBC ONE, some doing things, others stopping to stare gormlessly at the camera. It's getting tired, the trend of live action idents has come and gone, please, PLEASE give us something different for the flagship channel of not only the BBC but of the UK. BBC TWO have a symbol, and the idents and style around them was done perfectly, why couldn't something like that be created for BBC ONE? It feels like 2 steps forward and then one backwards.

I am still interested to see how the entire corporation exists now, with things like cross channel promotions, trailer endboards and the general transitions between things. I hope they also have finally took the opportunity to stop with the Subtitles tag on the idents, and if they have to have it for some bizarre reason, it is at least in Reith now.

I wonder if the '3 versions' are a morning version, a daytime version and a night version, or if its the same sort of ident but with 3 different groups/types of people in them that can be used at any time? Oh, and some of them have to be safe for news etc.

It's already been teased that there would be a mix of live action and CGI, as long as its implemented well there doesn't seem to be an issue. Just don't pre-judge before you've seen the actual idents.

Also. Live action idents have been a thing for BBC One since 1997, the first showing people were aired during the peak of the balloon in 2000. It's nothing new

Programme, not ident. ITV have it in programme and Channel 4 don't have anything at all, nor do Channel 5, so they would be in breach of this surely?

I read that as being live action idents enhanced with some CGI, not that there would be an entirely CGI ident like BBC TWO. But if there is a news safe ident that could be just the logo/symbol that these idents will feature on a simple background and done entirely in CGI. 3 weeks until we find out I suppose...!

Also, I know live action isn't new, my complaint was that we've had them for over 20 years on BBC ONE, it would be nice to see something different and new for them.

Given we've gone from Oneness to whatever this will be, 7/10 for some is a 10 for others. Sounds like its on the right track.

I've no concerns about BBC1 as surely it is impossible to do worse than Oneness. It's them not messing up BBC2 that is crucial.

Oh god, I almost forgot about those... 'highlights' included the expressionless man bungee jumping from the balloon, and people whizzing around a market square at high speed. (See TV Ark - scroll to the very bottom of the page)

Channel4Squares uploaded them onto the Blue Place in 2019 and they are still on Metropol's upload service

I would say 'That shouldn't be too hard', but...I guess we will just see.

I have to agree with this. Live action idents can be done well if there aren’t any people in them. If they are live action, they have to have a central symbol in them, otherwise they end up like five or UK Gold in 2002, just things happening which could be an advert, a trailer or a programme rather than an ident.

BBC2 has done it perfectly by having a central symbol which is new yet familiar, and flexible enough to have several variations. I’m sure I’ve mentioned it before but my idea for BBC1 would have been a globe made out of various objects, animals or whatever coming together and then spinning round. So perhaps several animated currency symbols for finance and business programmes, newspapers and smartphones/tablets for the news, sport items for sport, and so on. Central symbol, flexible idents.
