iPlayer content are in 50fps, but 720p only.

Is it? It's always got that film look for me.

Over on Newstalk, the presenter Andrea Gilligan mentioned the news shortly after the midday bulletin.

Yes , Joe Duffy's insert was the first mention of him passing on Radio 1 which as a bit of a news junkie I actually find annoying .

Don't think they should have gone to a news report but even Turbidy once mentioned a breaking international story on his show presumably with the knowledge he would lose some listeners

To be honest, I'm not sure why some people on here are getting so angry at the suggestion that it's been overkill. It's not as if anyone's saying the coverage shouldn't happen, just that there's no need to simulcast it on several channels and take other channels off air. If the coverage was only on BBC1 and the news channel and other channels were showing other content, it wouldn't be depriving it from anyone who wants to watch it.

It’s 720p50 and the bitrate is 5M/s - even higher than 1080i on Freeview… If your bandwidth is not enough there will be 25p clips.

I don't think anyone is getting angry, it's just a response to the exaggerated language of some.

Clearly sounds like she was trying to get through and turned away from the camera quite quickly. Spot the two journos running across the newsroom in the headline sequence!

Thanks for locating that

I agree it’s clear she was told during the titles. She seemed quite emotional reading that intro into the Covid story, and raced through it at a great speed.

It’s also quite a talent to read obituary material off the autocue, that you are seeing for the first time, at the same time as changing your outfit, all with the knowledge that in a few minutes you are going to be the one to read *that* announcement on BBC One

Yes, it was obvious that Martine was told after the 1200 headlines, but she handled the announcement very well indeed IMO. Thanks for the clip of Top of the hour by the way.

Here’s how the news broke on NBC, CBS and MSNBC. The actual content isn’t as long as the video is. I made I mistake editing it but didn’t catch it. Will update later.

Thanks. Interesting how the networks quite seemlessly enabled the rest of the network to join the breakfast shows on the east coast at a flick of a button. I think that is the one slight criticism of the BBC yesterday that they couldn't get on air on BBC1 as BBC News broke the news.

NBC Nightly News with Jose Diaz-Balart is leading with the death and funeral tonight. ABC has the story second while CBS is in live golf coverage.

No Sophy Ridge on Sunday tomorrow, The Andrew Marr Show is still scheduled but no guests have been listed, so I would be very surprised if that went ahead.

Fascinating to see how the US networks covered it - I think it was said on TVF before that whilst the UK media often goes into rolling news mode for breaking stories in the US, the reverse doesn't happen all that often. Interesting therefore to see how the various networks approached the story, with NBC even taking the Number 10 statement live. Very strange to see the presenters dressed in such bright colours though!

Separately, impressive how quickly NBC co-ordinates the joining of all stations together for the special report to break the story. Whenever various bits of the BBC opt in and out of each other (such as the regional news handover or when World opts into/out of the NC), there's always a very pregnant pause, whereas NBC do it almost instantly.

Yes the only thing I think they could have done better was if they hadn’t pre-announced it on the BBC News Channel and hence also on BBC Two.

They could either have got Martine to introduce the second scheduled report about Covid, or even just run it without introducing it, or maybe even just gone into breakfiller until everything was in order to opt into BBC One
