They could bring it back but then how long would it be until the novelty wears off like it did with TFI, 15-1 and Crystal Maze?
What CH4, imo, should have done is commissioned something more ambitious than The Steph Show last year. A black alternative to This Morning instead of the economy This Morning knock off we got would have been a better way to do what they're ham fistedly trying to do with Black Takeover Day.

I suppose SD 4:3 cameras didn’t help with that. I’ve said it before, but I was a big fan of the design of the music, graphics and house for the 2001 relaunch, it felt like they were trying to move the show on to better suit the 21st century.

Absolutely agree - the look and style of the show was the refresh the show needed IMO, along with the return to shorter, snappier, features as seen in the shows early years. It's just the personnel they didn't get right IMO - indeed for me Paul was the best of the three of them.

I actually think that's what ultimately killed the BB. They should have given the 2001 relaunch a chance. As others have said, the look was great - fresh, modern, but still colourful and quirky. The content was also on the right track. The personnel wasn't quite right, but they would have settled had they been willing to play around with pairings a little rather than ditch the whole thing.
I think they probably should have axed Donna and had a fresh start with Paul and Amanda. At the time, I thought keeping Donna as a bit of the old show carrying on was a good idea, but looking back she stuck out like a sore thumb on the relaunched show and - bless her - tried her best to keep the spirit of the old show going whilst grasping her old cartoony clipboard for all it was worth in the middle of a sleek and redesigned house, when really it needed a bit of freedom so it wasn't tied to what had gone before.
But then they threw the sofa in the bin, pretended Paul Tonkinson never existed, and quickly tumbled towards the axe with a tacky, Johnny Vaughan-lite offering.

Not sure if I am allowed to share someone else’s image, but on a BB Facebook group someone posted a picture showing some blue curtains with fried eggs laid out on the front lawn. Looks like preparations have begun.

Sounds like a strong “best of” from different eras of the show from a content perspective. Gilligan and Odudu also speak very warmly about the original show and seem to genuinely understand what made the show so brilliant, so seem excited to be fronting a programme they loved… I have high hopes for Friday!

E4+1 it is then. I really find C4's strategy for promoting these shows baffling - even if not as a collective you'd have thought they would have been high on rotation on the individual shows during the Paralympics. Perhaps they backed out somewhat, hence why we got endless ads for Help and Married at First Sight.

Anyone who didn't know who saw that ad would assume it's back for good - as indeed it should be. An effective trailer which feels both nostalgic and current - the music still sounds so good.

I was one and half when the show ended, so I didn’t get a chance to see it but having watched clips on YouTube over the years, I’d love to see it come back.

This is the thing - there is a whole generation who not only didn't experience The Big Breakfast but hasn't experienced the "manic" style of television which dominated youth television in the 90s. All the interviews about it are saying exactly the same thing that was being said in 1992 about how TV is lacking a real alternative to news in the mornings.
There must be money to be made with the right shows in the morning from live TV as well - ITV are well and truly committed and C5 have had Vine/Wright for 20 odd years. Packed Lunch got off to a tough start but it slowly but surely found an audience - although of course lockdown and people working from home has really helped with that.
It still remains to be seen how much "working from home" becomes the norm but there is a feeling it is here to stay in association with going to the office, so that extends the hours a good chunk of the potential breakfast audience are available and potentially pulls some back from radio.
Indeed surely the mornings should be where traditional TV is least impacted by the switch to streaming - surely far fewer people are sitting down to watch a boxset in the morning than later in the day.
