Holby City to end - Jez_CymruWales - 13-06-2021 I was surprised when I heard this news. I havent watched Holby City for about 6 or 7 now, i stopped watching as i was finding it boring. Ive watched Casualty on and off over the years and have recently seen some episodes, its ok but not even close to how good it was in the late 80/early to mid 1990s. I think the mistake was making both Holby City and Casualty weekly dramas, they were far better when they ran for a season of episodes, say 20 to 26 episodes and then were rested for 6 months. I think its no coincidence the quality dipped when both of them went 52 weeks of the year in the mid 200s (Casualty isnt quite 52 weeks as a few episodes are lost to various events but it must be around 45 episodes a year) Holby City to end - paul_hadley - 15-06-2021 New titles, credits and music on tonight’s episode. Doesn’t really seem worth the effort of changing them now does it? Doesn’t really seem worth the effort of changing them now does it? Is it for a special? Didn’t watch the episode. Odd they’ve changed the music after it’s remained untouched since launch. Holby City to end - Brekkie - 15-06-2021 Well considering it's only a couple of weeks or so since it's axing was announced it's fair to say the changes were commissioned beforehand. So often though shows heading for the chop make such changes as one last attempt to save themselves so maybe they did have indications the writing was on the wall but just didn't get the changes on air before the plug was finally pulled. I do wonder as well how much the changes made due to the pandemic have influenced the decision. Despite being cut to 20 minutes EastEnders still basically fills a half hour slot with a bit of padding elsewhere, whilst the nature of the Saturday night schedule means that the 10 minutes cut from Casualty aren't really noticed either. However thanks to being paired up with EastEnders the 40-minute episodes of Holby basically occupy half the slot they used too - presumably at the same price. Although clearly other factors were at play as well I suspect that helped swing it, especially if the plan is to bring the new "northern" soaps in at a price closer to what EastEnders costs per hour than what the BBC pay for Holby and Casualty. Holby City to end - paul_hadley - 16-06-2021 The new end credits style was a bit odd and didn’t fit in with most BBC standards. When the Action Line menu appeared it only just stopped short of cutting off the text. Holby City to end - London Lite - 16-06-2021 It looks like they wanted to bring the music in line with Casualty. Holby City to end - Stuart - 16-06-2021 It sounds as though they've already given up, and are playing the theme music out on a 1990s Sony Discman with rapidly degrading batteries. :o Holby City to end - chris - 16-06-2021 Yeah it’s pretty poor. The original theme still sounded great IMO. Holby City to end - Brekkie - 16-06-2021 It's as if somebody didn't finish their homework but handed it in anyway. Holby City to end - IndigoTucker - 16-06-2021 I don't get why the credits are non-standard... surely they can't do that?
