This is a 1997 style rebrand.
Don’t expect everything at once. There’s too many services to do all at once, unlike a couple of channels in the 90s.

Well that’s very disappointing news. I think we’d been led to assume it was going to a flick of a switch rebrand.
So are you saying that some channels will remain as they are? That the old BBC logo will be seen alongside the new one?

I assumed this icon was just for the app and the website. Are we thinking it will actually make its way to the News Channel?

Hopefully the bulk of services rebrand on screen(s) at the same time. Yes, the BBC is a big organisation with multiple brands but other PSBs across Europe seem to manage a fairly quick transition so given how long it has been in the works I don't think it is unreasonable to expect the majority of viewer facing branding to update in a relatively short space of time - and similarly not unreasonable to expect other elements to take a bit longer.

I'm most concerned about the BBC1 relaunch more than anything else. I did post my own ideas (probably back on TV Forum) and yes, it did involve the globe in some capacity (think The Disney Channel from 1999 to 2003), but who knows if the globe will be involved (I hope it is).
The logo is definitely growing on me and I think the BBC having copyright over Reith Sans is a good idea in this day and age. And a full rebrand is long overdue, just as long as BBC2 keeps the same idents but with the new logo.
Incidentally, someone mentioned Wolff Olins were involved, not Superunion. I thought it was Superunion and the BBC together?

That someone would be me. It's Wolff Olins and BBC Creative for the various new logos and overarching strategy, but not the BBC One idents. They're ManvsMachine I believe.

Superunion was involved in the BBC rebranding, but solely focused on BBC Two. It will be interesting to see whether new idents will be added to BBC Two curve set by Superunion to coincide with corporate BBC rebrand. I don't know about other channels.
