In terms of Norton and hignfy they were are the scheduled repeats so now they become the only screenings which is a reasonable compromise . In terms of the funeral I think if the fa cup match goes ahead at 510 on bbc 1 and in my opinion there’s no reason why it shouldn’t as all of today’s sport has happened I’d expect something like this to occur

The snooker coverage finishes at 1730 so I expect Final Score will air after that. I doubt Channel 4 or Channel 5 will show the funeral especially the latter as they have live rugby.

My opinion is that there will be no 'long-term effect', much like how some people complain there's too much sport when the Olympics are on. People like complaining.
Once the funeral's over next week, it'll all be back to normal and comments about the volume of coverage will be forgotten about.

The simple fact is that the majority are happy to pay for the license, and even if the license is withdrawn, the corporation will be fine (although very different) being funded privately. One day it may happen, I hope it doesn't, and hope that the corporation will adapt to the modern world. That may include reforms to the license. I have always wanted it to reform rather than be gone.
To get back on topic, the coverage for the death lasted a day and will have a bit more coverage over the next week, that's out of 365 days, 52 weeks a year. The coverage has cost a fee payer about £1.80. Let's keep things in context. It isn't everyday a major royal passes away, and the corporation has a duty, whether it is written on paper or not, to treat the death with respect. It does operate under a royal charter after all.

Yes I think it did seem a bit strange that both BBC Two and Four were suspended, (which I do expect to happen for the Queen) but ultimately it was just one day, and the iPlayer is still there.

The BBC has a huge input into its activity following a Royal death. Just shrugging it off with "well that's just protocol" doesn't really wash. It was massively out of step with the nation yesterday in my view, and this comes at a time when the corporation's future is in doubt. I never thought I'd say that, but it really is.

I appreciate the BBC are damned if they do, and damned if they don’t. I had no problem with the level of coverage on BBC1 and BBC News, they did the job as expected. However, the BBC has to reflect the mood of the nation. Everyone pays the licence fee, but not everybody is a big royalist, if at all. They were not served appropriately yesterday evening. There was absolutely no reason why BBC2 couldn’t have had a modified schedule last night, or for BBC4 to broadcast as normal. Too much of it is going to make people turn over, and it did in its droves last night.
Diana’s death was unexpected and shocking, but they still managed to get the balance right with that. They still allowed BBC2 to put a schedule of sorts out on that day from mid afternoon onwards.

Talking to a few people today the "the BBC's days are numbered" line came up. I think it might be. The standard response has been "What about Netflix?" but it rather misses the point. I have to pay for the BBC whether I like it or not. I have a choice whether or not to pay Netflix, I do but I might not for much longer; I find a lot of these "original series" simply use overly flash production values to hide poor writing and acting. But I'm forced to pay for the BBC.
The 'what about Netflix?' argument is flawed anyway - it does just one thing that the the BBC does. When my local area was flooded last year and when the world was turned upside down because of Covid a month later i didn't turn to my local Netflix radio station. Netflix didn't suddenly come up with lots of Key Stage 1 educational programmes to help educate my kids.
We have Netflix but don't watch it very often, we've done the big series but generally it sits there as something we look through to try and find something to watch.... just like we do iPlayer. That's the only bit of the BBC it can be compared with

Just checked the recording files, I forget that there is one more intro montage at 22:45, then they played the same montage again 15 minutes later.
They could just use the 6, 10, The Papers intro with a sombre music, like what ITV News did on its teatime news.

Seems like Sky is back to "normal" with Jonathan Samuels in Osterley presenting. I imagine there will be no Windsor or Canada Gate presentation from now until the day of the funeral, although I imagine there will be some correspondent presence at both locations throughout the week ahead.

I love the BBC. I like the funding model. And I wouldn't exactly say you and I are bedfellows in most debates but even I agree that these conversations are being had regularly with regards to the future of the BBC. And frustratingly they keep making these chronic missteps.
Anyone who thinks this will blow over and the public will fall in love with the BBC again, is in denial. The BBC's days are (sadly) numbered. Certainly as we know it now.

Joe Duffy has a regular bit on the Ronan Collins Show to promote Liveline and he talked about the death of Prince Philip, this was at about 12.40. He was asking people to call in to talk about Prince Philip and the Royal Family after the News at One.
RTE Radio One Extra was carrying the BBC World Service as normally scheduled.
