There's not much to add to the news apart from the details of the funeral so an extra 10 minutes is sufficient.

Amusingly though, the trandisition does actually work and seem almost seamless ?

It’s a double edged sword really - if it’d been the other way and they’d got complaints for not doing enough then there’d be a lot more controversy.

IMHO I thought that the constant BBC One coverage was warranted, as was the start of coverage being broadcast on BBC Two and BBC Four. However, I think that after a while it probably would've been fine to return to normal programming on BBC Two and Four - they could've aired some of the BBC One stuff that didn't air due to the news coverage on BBC Two.

I've had a number of thoughts . The Beeb seem to have tied themselves into a knot over this, with their (self imposed ?) directive that all TV channels must combine their output during such events. There's a hidden agenda that of course it increased the aggregate viewing figures, and it saved money 8-)
If I was Ofcom/DCMS I'd be thinking about imposing limits on their habit of simulcasting, last night was just plain silly

Is the first time that the Ten is shown on BBC Two since the opening night of London 2012? The last Six on BBC Two was in 2015 or 2016 during Wimbledon I think.
Also as I said before, the rolling coverage, Six, Ten and The Paper could just use the sombre BBC News theme, the 1-minute intro is more suitable for an obit documentary rather than a news bulletin.

At the end of of the day complaints in this direction won’t go anywhere, it’s basically just one day of people moaning, the Beeb will issue a statement and that’ll be that.
Whereas complaints of not enough coverage, or something normal airing that wasn’t checked and was disrespectful, would drag on much longer than that.
My own opinion is that I would have allowed BBC Two to show alternative programming after teatime, and I’m also surprised it literally ran all night without any gaps. I suppose just having one gap would have to sit right in the wider schedule. It couldn’t look ridiculously out of place. I don’t know what the current EastEnders storyline is, but knowing how depressive it can often be, it might have looked odd to break away for 20 mins of people shouting and crying.

"it was the wrong choice" sorry but i do believe royal protocol doesnt care what day it is. they have a procedure for a senior royal death in place and they followed it. it sucks to miss a show ya like but some things are more important. but what do i know , i am an american after all. i think considering the circumstances BBC knocked it out of the park. and i was listening to BBC radio 5 and was woken up by the simulacast

I get the BBC would rather take a pasting for going overboard rather than being seen to be disrespectful but long term I wonder if it has worn thin the patience of some a little too much?
Talking to a few people today the "the BBC's days are numbered" line came up. I think it might be. The standard response has been "What about Netflix?" but it rather misses the point. I have to pay for the BBC whether I like it or not. I have a choice whether or not to pay Netflix, I do but I might not for much longer; I find a lot of these "original series" simply use overly flash production values to hide poor writing and acting. But I'm forced to pay for the BBC.

Going back to the BBC Four closure last night. Here's what it did to the bitrate allocation on the PSB1 Mux from

As you can see the data used for BBC Four/Cbeebies (in that sort of murky green brown colour) was virtually nothing. Though oddly the rates used by BBC1, 2 and the News Channel are different despite showing the same thing and RB1 and CBBC seem to be needing a lot more than usual.
How reliable it is and what it proves I've no idea but you can have a look at it yourself here
