But wasn't that different? There's no strict time pressure on the announcer in the middle of the night when BBC One crashes into the News Channel at any time they please, whereas there is coming up to the top-of-the-hour junction for the main 1 / 6 / 10 bulletins.

And of course all the regions have their generic pre-recorded announcements into the Six.

For those hyper critical of Oneness over the years and have suggested different camera angles etc. it's worth remembering they commissioned the artist Martin Parr to create them. They were done in his style, and he'd want to tightly control that.
His photos do often contain a witty element though which is where I think they missed a trick with them.

A very talented man and skilled photographer.
That was the main problem, though. As a photographic project, Oneness would probably have been fine. But when it came to TV idents, it just didn't work.

And it shows what a bad decision it was to get a stills photographer to create a set of TV idents. The Oneness concept launched at Christmas 2016 without Martin Parr’s involvement, and the Christmas Day idents were done very nicely.

I am not going to repeat myself, and say what I thought the problems with Oneness was. Its a dead horse now anyway. Other bad ident concepts will come and go, and time will be kinder to some more than others (case and point: The Rhythm and Movement package, which has been re-appraised in a more positive light). I will say some good things about Oneness: It did eventually gain a level of variety, the idents were filmed across the 4 nations, and there was some good, natural diversity of people who appeared on the idents.
