Oneness has always had the feel of a being a temporary stopgap to me, partly due to those early statements about it being a year-long project, but mainly due to the idents having such a cheap and shoddy look about them. They gave the impression of something intended the refresh the look of BBC1 on a short-term basis after ten years of the circles, while something entirely new and more impressive could be put together.
So the fact that Oneness (including the period of the lockdown idents) has lasted for just over five years and three months is a travesty, especially when you consider even the balloons only lasted four-and-a-half years.

Will these new idents be good? Or will they break the cycle?
Judging from all of the previous posts and previews of the Lens package, it won't break the cycle, it's sounding better and better as it leads up to launching

I've always wondered why BBC One stopped using the forest ident before the news, the sausage dog walkers have never struck me as being particularly serious.

I agree. Forest was a decent generic ident that would always have been appropriate for introducing serious programmes or sombre events. Strange that its tenure was a brief one.

I would guess they’re using the Killyleagh one as it’s in Northern Ireland.
