Other parts of the article can use an update too, like the BBC Creative input claim. The agency issued an article explaining the creation of the idents (as mentioned in previous pages), but it is still under the Citation Needed tag in the Wikipedia article.

Well, the people who are reverting those Wikipedia edits will have egg on their face when the idents do launch tonight, won't they?
I wonder if the BBC could've avoided this by launching them tomorrow instead. Saturday honestly would've made more sense anyway.

I don't think the BBC are wishing they'd changed the day they launched the new videos they use between programmes because some presentation enthusiasts are not certain about when they will launch.

But step away from the 'globe' representation, and the balloons were just a great ident set. Showcasing beautiful British countryside and landmarks, a colourful identifiable symbol, really strong music, and the great potential for special idents (I'm aware this list is similar to Asa's above!). They really could have continued with that symbol for BBC One for a very long time (even if they refreshed the idents every so often) and it was only one woman's dislike of it that led to the early retirement of the balloon.
On another note, there's never anything quite like a new BBC One ident day as a pres fan (although it's not *quite* the same when we've had most of the package in operation for six months or so) - I still remember the 2006 circles launch like it was yesterday. Here's hoping that we like what we see later on - enjoy everyone!
I'll be honest, I never quite understood the "imperialist" criticism of the globe, especially as people wanted to make BBC1 more diverse and representative. You literally couldn't be more diverse or representative than the planet we all live in/on.
I maintain that a channel still needs a strong, central symbol to make it memorable, not just a lot of people, and that includes the dancers from 2002. If you didn't have the boxed "BBC One" logo, you wouldn't necessarily know which channel you were watching, which is the entire point of an ident. The balloon was certainly perfect in that respect and was created at the point where multiple idents with music were becoming commonplace.

The comment many many pages ago about them having a BBC HD feel is a good call, that's exactly what they reminded me of when I saw them.
My opinion is that they're a nice concept and executed well well, but they are a little dull. A definite step up from what they have now though hopefully having more new versions will help that

And again, my fears and reasoning seem justified. Nicely executed like the Rhythm and Movement or Circle idents, but dull or generic because they're simply not striking from a visual perspective. I tend to liken it to how people remember a classic sitcom of the age because of it being funny, despite having wobbly sets or cheaper production values, rather than a more modern sitcom with no laughter track and fewer jokes, despite being more crisply shot and edited. For me, real people equals bland.
Apologies for the broken record, but I do think the globe could have still been used in a new and interesting way. If you look at what Lambie-Nairn did with the Disney Channel in the mid-90s and what French company GÉDÉON continued to do with it from 1999, that's the sort of thing I would want done with the globe: numerous elements coming together to form it at the end, almost like Channel 4 did back when they launched, but using different graphic designers like BBC2 did with the Curve idents. You could easily have different idents for differently themed programmes, and all without any real world elements.
