New BBC channel logos in action (on air from Wed) - boddington - 19-10-2021 Tomorrow's "re-branded" One-ness idents will be similar to 2nd May 2009 when the BBC unnecessarily shortened the BBC One circles idents: utterly and totally underwhelming. The branding that goes with it does. What utter rubbish. If that were a case all idents would be a black screen with a logo on it. Tone mate, it's fine to disagree. Never a need to be condescending. If in doubt, be nice. On the note of disagreeing and Rhythm and Movement, how did the clips for R&M alone represent the channel in any way, shape or form? They could have run on ITV, Channel 4 or 5 instead if their branding had been added. Can you remember anyone stating that Film4 didn't have a rebrand? Or that it was botched?Film4 integrated their new logo excellently and seemlessly on a popular and much loved set of idents, rather than slapping a questionable new logo on one of the most hated ident packages in TV history. The nature of the rebrand was quite different too - that literally was about changing the logo, not the visual identity of the channel - completely different to the stated aim of this rebrand. You've just proven my point. You are looking at this from the narrowest of narrow views. The large majority of the public don't care about idents and they most certainly don't hate idents. Interesting to note that what is effectively a rebrand is being sold as improving usability and experience. Not only is that true but it also helps stop it being seen as a a purely aesthetic redesign I like the idea of taking the 3 squares and making them move and transform into simple icons for their services, think it works really well New BBC channel logos in action (on air from Wed) - Brekkie - 19-10-2021 Inspector Sands post_id=48507 time= user_id=1003 Wrote:I like the idea of taking the 3 squares and making them move and transform into simple icons for their services, think it works really wellI just wish they could do something similar for the channels. It looks so good transforming from News to Sport to Weather etc., and if they could use the blocks in a manner to give BBC1, 2, 3, 4, CBBC and CBeebies an icon too that would link them together so much better than just having a word at the bottom of the screen. For most people here "Oneness" refers to the idents - not the text, not any wider campaign of "people coming together" or whatever marketing nonsense they associated with it. The idents. You are right in the first part, no one would know what on earth you're talking about which is exactly because the branding is sh!te. Whatever the video is, is irrelevant as long as the video isn't "related" to the channel/service. If the branding that is overlaid is exciting then it stands out. Oneness branding does not. It's bland, boring and forgettable. If you asked most people here, nether mind the general public, they’d say Oneness = groups of people stopping the various things they are doing to gawp at the camera for a few seconds. Oneness is staying for now! New BBC channel logos in action (on air from Wed) - Rex - 19-10-2021 The result of this entire rebrand is going to be really exciting to see over the next few months. All of the main BBC brands look cohesively integrated and implement the blocks well. Not to mention it'll be interesting to see how well the linear channels fare branding wise, it feels like special care has been given to modernising junctions and retaining consistency. Two and Four look great so far and even BBC One with its outgoing idents boosts the BBC brand a lot further. New BBC channel logos in action (on air from Wed) - Brekkie - 19-10-2021 Moving on and is a real shame this is going to take so long - it does feel underwhelming and somewhat botched to roll out a revamp over the space of six months. Yes, the BBC is a massive organisation and it is to be expected not everything would be ready to go on Day 1, but now the iPlayer and Sounds are seen very much as key components of the BBC, arguably more so than the TV channels and radio stations they take most their content from, for those to remain on the backburner for a few more months doesn't feel right. Does this mean we're going to see new logos advertising them but then the old logos on the app themselves - could it be why the icons may not be used initially? ITV is clearly a smaller organisation but the biggest of their competitors other than Sky in terms of the number of services they offer and their rebrand in 2013 was so successful because it was so well co-ordinated. Virtually everything on screen changed overnight and the off-screen elements, of which there are admitedly far fewer, changes pretty quickly too. There is a real danger that this rebrand is being compromised by the delays in some rebranding elements, and although it has been a long time in the making it does raise questions about why the on screen refresh is coming when so many elements clearly aren't ready to go. It somehow feels rushed, but drawn out, at the same time. New BBC channel logos in action (on air from Wed) - NancerOnTheLIVEForum - 19-10-2021 As much as I hate to say it, the Oneness idents won't be forgotten. They've become so infamous that they'll be remembered for it. They're playing the long game here folks New BBC channel logos in action (on air from Wed) - Lyric W. - 19-10-2021 Something I've just noticed about the new icons - Not only are they made of squares, but they're also squares [more or less] in size! They're really going all out with the whole "squares" idea New BBC channel logos in action (on air from Wed) - Rex - 19-10-2021 NancerOnTheLIVEForum post_id=48519 time= user_id=1794 Wrote:As much as I hate to say it, the Oneness idents won't be forgotten. Given the time it took to film the initial five to the delayed launch (June/July to October 2021), early 2022 seems really plausible at this point. On a further note, I'd love to see some more additions to Curve. As much as we spend far too much time discussing presentation, branding isn't created for us. The general public would look at you with a blank stare because they would have no idea what you're talking about. This has been shown through research. The TWO curves and the Channel 4 giant on the other hand get recognised by the majority. New BBC channel logos in action (on air from Wed) - all new Phil - 19-10-2021 Just putting it out there amongst the bickering and the negativity - everything I’ve seen looks great. I’m not usually a BBC “fan” like some here but I think they’ve done what looks like a great job. |
