I suspect that the best ITV will get is people just dipping in/out, and then use the aggregated figures as justification. I think this is MORE likely to encourage the demise of linear broadcast viewing than to encourage it.

Interesting... don't think ITV have ever done that before, have they? I assume the forecast will still be sponsored?

I don't think ITV will be sad to shut down its linear operations if everything goes pear shaped;
- Pushes more people onto the Hub where they have as many ads as they like
- Saves money from not having PSB requirements
- Saves money because they're online only

I don't think they get any say. As an affiliate they pay outright for the whole schedule. They can opt-out of parts of the schedule for their own content but if ITV decide to extend the news and move the soaps into new slots they have little choice over the matter.
