There are no elections in Northern Ireland, the one place in the UK that doesn't have any.
It used to be, when the regions were a proper going concern, that outside of the news bulletins the local election coverage was left to the individual regions to cover. I think the only time they did a full networked local elections programme was in 1996, as a rehearsal for the following year.

Even tricky to do that this time with the results coming in across the weekend. Wouldn't have been a bad idea to run a full news hour at 6pm on Saturday (or Sunday, or both) to give more local coverage in England. A couple of 6-minute bulletins isn't really going to cut it.
That said on a regional level in England I don't think the BBC have extended their weekend bulletins unless there is something within the afternoon show.

At the risk of going off topic, did ITV regions used to do specials for by-elections? Can imagine it would have been better served than on the Beeb, as it would local coverage

In all the 80s TV Times I have that include by-elections, the coverage is from ITN, so seemingly not. Though the regions would doubtless have covered them extensively elsewhere in the schedules.

I notice they always mention Adrian Masters is from ITV Wales, yet they never do that for correspondents from any of the other regions (the most prominent I can think of being David Wood of West Country, and Hannah Miller from Granada). I wonder why that is.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Od1lJcG3oe4 Full Coverage I uploaded tonight from ITV News in Edinburgh, The nice thing was, they used weekday credits at the end, and they used a sky drone of Edinburgh for the end, the Voiceover sounded really weird, as it was just 3 different pitches being edited.
