I always thought because it's very basic and flavorless so adds to the agony for the celebs rather than a budget control issue

For some reason my enjoyment of that episode dipped slightly, as soon as they got to the castle... I can't quite put my finger on it, and I don't mean any disrespect (it's a stunning location as I've said previously). But on-screen, it somehow lacks the magic of the jungle. It's so dark and cold (obviously that's the point though) and I'm still getting a sense that they don't have much space to play with. But until Oz reopens, it is what it is, and I'd rather have this than nothing.

I much prefer the castle to the jungle, but I don't see why they still have to use bugs, can't they think of something else for the trials, it all feels a bit exhausted now

I think the problem with the launch show in recent years is it spends so long introducing the celebs when most viewers have probably already seen the full line up weeks in advance in the tabloids / social media
They shoud just get into a challenge straight away really and do brief introductions as they go along

Didn't photos last year show Ant and Decs studio and 'camp' are giant metal buildings they have errected and built a fake castle set inside, most likely for environmental reasons, heating etc.
It's essentially a fake set.. inside a real castle.

Rice and beans are not the only rations. There's also a significant quantity of vegetables and oats. The rations are put together by a nutritionist so that the celebs have a balanced diet which doesn't make them unwell. They've actually upped the rations in Wales to allow for the lower temperatures.

Yes, to a point. I think Ant & Dec's area is a studio, as is the area where most of the trials are filmed (if it's like last year, the trials happen away from the castle, and closer to the presenters' studio, so there's some fakery going on when you see contestants heading down the steps).
AFAIK the camp, bathroom etc are genuinely inside the real castle.

I'm slightly confused with the chronology here. The night richard read out the scroll "enjoy your last night in the clink" was last night, right?
