Very late airing for Norton, thought they'd try and get that out in a 9pm slot or at worst 10:45. Very few people going to stay up to watch that.
I thought the BBC wasn't allowed to show comedy shows during the 8 days of mourning?

Very sad news. My sincere condolences to Her Majesty The Queen and all of the Royal Family at this sad time.
This Morning being mid way through an interview with Tyrone from Corrie when the news broke, I thought it was all handled very well. I assume Mary Nightingale wasn't due to present the Evening News as she rarely does Fridays, so was called in. Its right that the most senior presenters are called in at this time and I expect the same would have happened had it been a Saturday Sunday or Bank Holiday.
I agree it was the right decision to suspend normal programming on the main channels last night and this morning - the soaps on ITV will easily be able to catch up and be back in line again by Wednesday.

I think somebody said that Vanessa had appeared on This Morning shortly before so the start of the radio show might have been pre-recorded to accommodate that?
If she appeared live on This Morning I guess it must have been pre-recored on radio 2. It seems to be around 20 minutes door to door by car.

Whether or not Vanessa was live or recorded is kind of a moot point (aside from wondering why if she was live she didn't reference the news) as every other national BBC station joined the obit in a similarly abrupt way, except for Radio 4 which was hosting it and Radio 1 Dance which joined late so was even more abrupt.
Regarding BBC Four, it's a mixture of a technical and editorial decision. CBeebies showing different content (content that is seen as an important public service) places a different load on statmuxing than BBC Four showing the same thing as the other channels and the priority is put on making sure the broadcast quality is not compromised in a "moment of national significance". But BBC Four not showing anything at all if it cannot simulcast the obit, rather than perhaps a nice sedate Joy of Painting marathon, is an editorial decision. I can see both sides of the argument but either way it's important to know that this wasn't a decision made on the fly and has been part of the plans for a very long time.

According to Broadcast Magazine. Newsnight’s ratings were 250K. E4’s showing of Hollyoaks, yes Hollyoaks, actually did better in the ratings with 390K. I think these disastrous ratings might make the BBC re-think its wall-to-wall coverage in future when a Royal dies.

I think perhaps a couple of hours of news coverage and then a documentary tribute (or two) would have sufficed for most people. To interrupt all networks (both television and radio) for hours and hours on end does not seem justified in this day and age of social media, video-on-demand and multi-channel television.

There will be more to talk about then - it was OTT for Philip but I’d expect more than a couple of hours of coverage and a documentary for the Queen.

I'm not sure it's quite as easy as that, as every programme that's due to air needs to be checked to ensure it's appropriate to air first and that's going to take time to do.
Completely justified for BBC Four not to show TOTP 1990 as planned at 19:00, but the decision to drop a live football match and move it to the red button instead is a strange one. If statmuxing really is a concern, they could have easily put a caption on the red button channel instead of whatever filler it was due to show, and that would have had the same effect.

When the Queen Mother died, they were back to programming, albeit a revised schedule about 3 and a half hours after the news broke.
BBC One will finish its coverage near 26 hours after it broke.
