Does anyone know the ITV/ STV situation? it seems STV are taking direct ITV feed as there has been no DOG for any of the studio coverage from ITN. However, they also didn’t have one on the STV news at 6 so could be an intentional move by them.

Here's a question: in the (unlikely) event that a Home Nations team reached the final of the Euros or World Cup, and a death of high importance was announced around the same time, how would that work? How would people continue to watch the football? How would you fit in the news that England have won their first major trophy since 1966 around the continuing coverage that [senior member of the Royal Family] has passed away?

Just picking up on the comments last night suggesting an issue with the stat muxing was the reason for the closure of BBC Four. While this may (or may not) be the reason the BBC decided to suspend the channel, I'm struggling to understand the reasoning why, which makes me question if that was the reason.
As has been explained stat muxing allows channels to change their bitrate on the fly depending on the content being aired, so that channels that don't need a high bitrate (e.g. slower moving content) can reduce their bitrate and donate the freed up bandwidth to channels showing content that would benefit from a bump in their bitrate (e.g. sports).
Obviously when all the channels on the mux are showing the same content this makes stat muxing completely redundant, as all the channels have the same encoding requirements. It shouldn't however create technical problems, it just means the channels effectively switch to using a constant bitrate. If they're showing faster moving content the encoders just won't allow the bitrates to go higher as there's nowhere to borrow it from, which may result in an increase in artifacts (i.e. blocking) on the picture but nothing out of the ordinary.
It's possible they decided to close BBC Four simply to give the other channels more breathing room to compensate for the loss of stat muxing, as a static slate allows BBC Four to reduce its bitrate and donate capacity to the other channels. However we need to remember that it shares its slot with CBeebies, and they clearly had no issue keeping CBeebies on air while the other channels were simulcasting, which in my mind confirms the decision was more political than technical. Also if that was the reason it would have been somewhat defeated when playout switched in the animated BBC Sport slide.

Well my assumption is that WN was not "part of the plan". Ever since BBC reduced their news output, whenever there's breaking news usually WN will crash into NC or NC will crash into WN rather than doing separate coverage or coordinate opt in timings with directors, allowing "simplicity" in operation and better utilization of limited resources.
Looking at the old TV Forum posts during the coverage of Princess Margaret's death in 2002, BBC World did their coverage separately with News 24. So I assume if this happened without the pandemic, WN would probably not join NC and cover the death of Prince Phillip separately with reduced levels of coverage to accommodate international viewers who wants news from other parts of the world.

They were asking for comments and opinions, not reading them out. I'm not sure if it's the case in BBC Radio but certainly at Global they often pre-record links when they're playing out music and then play the links in.

If she appeared live on This Morning I guess it must have been pre-recored on radio 2. It seems to be around 20 minutes door to door by car.
