Some valid points there, although I'm curious on a few bits.
For some events I suspect Sky will still "go big" to get exclusivity - football, F1, cricket & some golf are the obvious. For many others, then I get the feeling they'd rather have the rights than not, but are being stricter on budgets - and BT have got a few good wins recently.
Your comment about the streamers appeals to my pet beef - this basically means Amazon, but they don't seem to have any intention of being a mainstream sports broadcaster but pick off what I'll loosely call "low hanging fruit". Taking international rugby as the obvious (and my biggie) example, I'm still gobsmacked at the low value of the AI rights compared with the 6N deal, and when Amazon's 2year online-only deal runs out before RWC-2023, it will be very interesting to see who shows an interest in the home nations warm-up games. I don't see Amazon being too interested, but I'm beginning to wonder if Sky's only interest is in the England games and they don't have much value on the other home nations.
Equally, Sky's Rugby Championship deal is only for this one tournament which makes the dynamics of any long-term deal over the next year fascinating.

Firstly ratings - a Six Nations game can hit 8m, an Autumn International comes nowhere close.
Secondly even though the home unions are somewhat in denial it is far from certain the All Blacks and Wallabies will come over. With lockdowns continuing down under with no end in sight nothing should be taken for granted.

Ofcom currently only allow channels on the three PSB muliplexes - on the basis they have 99% coverage, the commercial multiplexes a maximum of 90%. The channels need to reach 95% across DTT, Satellite, cable and via ipTV. It is only 2019 when Five was added back to the list on the basis their reach from ipTV was deemed sufficient in additional to the other platforms, which included being on a PSB multiplex. The chances of the rules allowing the likes of Quest to be a qualifying service are low.

Sky are in their pitchside studio for today's Leeds vs Liverpool match. First time on their PL Coverage since Super Sunday on 8th March at Old Trafford. Another step in the return to normal. Still yet to bin the pitchside post match interviews and the Zoom Press Conferences, however.

One thing I thought was how poor the screens were - seemed really small for the studio, especially the one behind the desk.

Well it was enough to fool the reporter from the Daily Mail.
But yes, the desk area of the studio looked like a modernised version of what Sky would have used for their lesser events about 15 years.

From memory that studio made its debut for the 2020 US Open and has been used for coverage of all tennis events held outside the UK where they've done a studio production (1000-level events) since.
They were on site for last year's Tour Finals at the O2, and this year at Queen's and Eastbourne.

Really odd - the set couldn't have been more obviously in a basement studio somewhere if they tried. It was actually a fairly basic set saved by an epic desk.
Pretty sure it's not a standing set - I think I've been in that studio for other IMG productions.
