New BBC channel logos in action (on air from Wed) - Inspector Sands - 18-10-2021 Compared with 1997 the BBC logo is in use in many many more places now. Back then it was just a handful of TV channels, a few on the website and things like buildings and stationary. Now its splashed across everything and on thousands of online video clips. It's going to be a long time till the new logo takes over totally and the old one will probably never go away completely. That said, the logo they introduced in 1987 didn't replace the old one on air till 1990 New BBC channel logos in action (on air from Wed) - Aaron.TV - 18-10-2021 chris post_id=48226 time= user_id=1265 Wrote:Aaron.TV post_id=48225 time= user_id=1940 Wrote:God this is going to be an unholy mess isn’t it For the record, I was not ‘BBC bashing’, and think the rebrand itself (from what we’ve seen so far) looks rather nice. It was more a comment on the BBC’s chronic inability to do things consistently - that’s a valid point to make without being accused of ‘BBC bashing’. It'd just be totally impractical. And then there's repeats of shows out of production (like Flog It) with the 97 logo in the titles - of course they're probably not going to have repeats of it ad infinitum, but I don't think they're going to be pulling it in a hurry. For those of you that think EastEnders having the wrong logo on it for 2 weeks is slapdash, then I'm really sorry, you're going be using the word slapdash a lot more. I'll enjoy skipping past those posts and look forward to the more constructive criticism. I've mentioned before the subtle changes to the logo, which is common across corporate identity changes at the moment, is handy because both logos can exist together without confusing the audience. Totally respect all that you've said Prospero&Ariel, but it slightly contradicts this (which I also totally respect, Thistle has given us some great info)...
It will be a overnight overhaul, around-about spooky season ;-) Flick of a switch kind of a thing and everything will change. It’s gonna be a mammoth effort, but when replacing the main corporate logo which is plastered everywhere, it needs to be done quickly and not drip fed. New BBC channel logos in action (on air from Wed) - Brekkie - 18-10-2021 I'm hoping they'd sort out the issues with the new idents in time for the New Year so hopefully they'd be able to launch with the new style Christmas idents, then launch the delayed new idents on New Years Day, as they did with Oneness. If not though I don't think they'd care one bit about having Christmas idents in a new style then going back to Oneness for a bit considering they don't seem to care about launching a brand new look with idents many very much hoped were on their way out. Brekkie Now please, stop using logic. The BBC no longer work logically. In an ideal world what you describe is what will happen, but the Beeb are in a world of their own! However the BBC of 1987 and 2021 are very different beasts, so whilst changing everything on day 1 if not exactly practical I think as long as they change the UK customer facing elements - i.e. mainly the onair branding and branding on websites, apps etc. they are pretty much there. Physical branding can change later, as can the international channels. Of course not don’t be ridiculous. I don't think it's an analogy that works. Digital media vs physical things. New BBC channel logos in action (on air from Wed) - mdta - 18-10-2021 It is not practical to expect an organisation the size and breadth of the BBC - to be able to turn around a total rebrand in 24 hours. The Playout stuff can be handled in one go as it is centralised. The Graphics Packs will be sent to News regions, but it will rely on their night shifts swapping them over. Building signage will require planning permissions in some circumstances, and likely wont be changed until building maintenance is required so it can be folded into the costs. Same with interior signage, as room provisions change and wear and tear replacements are needed. The international channels, are a "separate" corporate entity, and will require coordination with broadcast partners and the multi-lingual trail makers. It could happen alongside domestic output, but I wouldn't bet on it. BBC News seems to be planning studio refits, and re-arrangements - so their possible fuller rebrand, will be out of step - but a logo replacement is easier, as its generated live during output New BBC channel logos in action (on air from Wed) - Inspector Sands - 18-10-2021 The odd thing about this is that I work for the BBC and if it wasn't for reading the threads on here I wouldn't even know there was a new logo being introduced. There's been absolutely no mention of it anywhere, nothing on the intranet, no emails, it was shown briefly in the Director Generals broadcast the other week but wasn't introduced or referenced. I was working on something last week and thought I'd try and future proof it.... but it was nowhere to be seen Granted I'm not in an area of the corporation that has much to do with branding and doesn't use the logo for anything public facing, but you'd have thought they'd have told us, even if it's just to give us one to put in an email signature It's seeming like a very low key launch New BBC channel logos in action (on air from Wed) - Brekkie - 18-10-2021 mdta post_id=48250 time= user_id=1187 Wrote:Building signage will require planning permissions in some circumstances, and likely wont be changed until building maintenance is required so it can be folded into the costs. Signage is the main complication for a full rebrand but beyond that with the right planning you can see stores up and down the country all role out something at 8am on the day a new campaign launches.GraemeT post_id=48229 time= user_id=1404 Wrote:When Burger King changed their logo, do you think every Burger King across the country changed their sign, menus, cups, etc on the same day at 8am? Similarly I was working in BBC Local Radio when the logo changed in 1997. I was only aware of the change from what I’d seen in the Radio Times. I remember asking on the Monday if the station had a new logo, and no-one seemed to know anything about it. |
