My disappointment is mostly with BBC One not having the new idents in time for the new logo, sadly enough Sad .

We'll have to "endure" Oneness still for some time; and honestly, the reasons for that (which I know, but I don't understand) make it even "sadder"

BBC Parliament at the moment are just using a white S in a black box.

The white 80s T W O idents used the international symbol for deafness/hard of hearing for subtitled programmes.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I thought the 1980's T W O ident was the best one they had. it was stylish and modern for the time.

IMO, it's more up-to-date than having "BBC/One+Two+Three" etc. in the same line.

I respect your opinion but I don't understand this, surely having BBC/One+Two+Three is the most up-to-date thing ever for me

I'm of a generation who still prefer to watch linear rather than stream. That said, I appreciate the direction of travel.

Whilst I would prefer a strong logo/ident for each channel (the 1991 '1' and '2' were my favourites as they were completely different from what we'd seen before), I think this rebrand is possibly the last for linear as we know it.

I think the channel number is deliberately relegated and BBC, the brand, promoted. Wouldn't surprise me all if the majority of channels as we know them have been phased out in 10 years, if only to allow the broadcasters to complete with Netflix et al.

I've been following this thread since the beginning but not yet posted here.
I have mixed feelings about all this really. Now I know I shouldn't be doing this as its not the same at all, but I keep going back to the ITV 2013 rebrand and thinking how well that was all implemented, and then thinking what a mess all this BBC rebrand is starting to look.

I'm sure there's more to it than I know, and I know the BBC is a huge corporation, but I feel they should have held back the rebrand until January and launch everything together after the Christmas presentation ends. Get the new BBC One idents sorted, get the new BBC News sorted etc and make it something that actually feels special, just like ITV did in Jan 2013.

Before anyone starts having a go at me saying the BBC rebrand is not the same as ITV, I know it's not, i'm just saying how professional that all came across. Everything all changed at the same time on the same day. All this with the BBC is starting to feel a bit amateurish in comparison.

Also, a random Wednesday in the middle of October feels a really odd time to launch the new look as well. Has any reason ever been stated for this? Are they wanting to keep it very low key?

Digital deployments are generally carried out mid-week in case of any issues. They can then be fixed before the weekend.

Whilst we're generally focusing on what changes we'll see on TV, I can imagine that the updating of all online content is probably a pretty mammoth task in itself.

Interesting that you mention the Christmas Presentation. It's a bit of an enigma as to what they'll do on BBC One this year. I suspect the Christmas Pres was meant to align with the new idents, but as they're not launching yet, makes me wonder how they'll adapt previous years Christmas pres to work with the new branding. I agree too, for the sake of a few weeks, I also think that as BBC One's new idents are not yet ready, they should have delayed the rebrand until the New Year when the new idents might be ready. Also, with speculation about Covid restrictions potentially returning, how will Oneness idents be appropriate if a further lockdown is implemented?

God this is going to be an unholy mess isn’t it - some programs using the updated logo, others not bothering, for many months to come.

Have program makers been told to use the new logo on any titles, etc. for anything going out after Wednesday? Presumably not if EastEnders aren’t using the new logo.

Do we want to place bets on when the last new program using the old logo airs? I think we’ll be seeing the old logo popping up by accident for a long, long time yet!

I thought you were talking about this thread for a moment.

Let’s sum up: nobody knows exactly how it will play out on air, so let’s save the oneness-whining, ‘97-longing and BBC-bashing until Wednesday?

With regards as to why they are launching the refresh in mid October, maybe they don't want big publicity over the new look, trying it out mid week might ensure less publicity compared to launching it at the weekend when most people are tuning in, e.g. for Strictly Come Dancing.

This is becoming quite an entertaining thread.

There’s so much more to a rebrand than the one day a headline logo changes.

When Burger King changed their logo, do you think every Burger King across the country changed their sign, menus, cups, etc on the same day at 8am? Of course not don’t be ridiculous.

When Twitter changed its logo was every website in the world instantly updated, or do many to this day still have a little hairstyle on the bird - of course they do.

It’s a process - not a light switch.

But what do I know...

I'm can't remember the general consensus from the blue place as to how everyone else felt about last year's BBC One Christmas pres last year, but I really like the whole package last year with the animated idents, gentle music that wasn't in your face, and the nice purplely background for the menus/social media icons etc; so I'd be alright for them to get brought back for a second year running, with the new BBC one logo of course

I disliked it(last year's) immensely. I'd prefer 2016's to be rebranded, somehow it would be like coming full circle.
