No, it’s just responsive. Changes depending on the size of the window you’re viewing in.

Technically the widest part of the B - the lower half- is centred, but that doesn't account for the narrower upper half - so could do with being shifted slightly to the right for best visuals.

Just my tuppence worth.

Yes - totally agree with this. I thought at first it was just my eyes, but I don’t think the letters are visually aligned well.

Am I in the minority when I think the channel box logos introduced in 2001 with BBC Two were the best of both worlds?

They had the consistency of the 1997 corporate branding, while allowing for more personality for their channels, since the BBC wanted proper logos at that point, the 1997 corporate branding scheme I feel wouldn't last too long and would have gotten stale in its original form.

I think Martin Lambie-Nairn had the right idea when he decided that the logos themselves should be simple text, with the channel's personalities being expressed through visual properties (e.g. the balloon, the 2s etc).

I'm afraid I had various issues with the boxed logos:

1) It reduced the BBC boxes to tiny proportions instead of being big and clear.

2) Similarly, any regional or nation name also to be shoved inside the box, again reducing the lettering to tiny proportions and making the box look crowded.

3) The 1997 format centralised everything so was consistent in any aspect ratio - 4:3, 14:9, 16:9, whichever. The 2001/02 boxed logos were placed in the corner of the screen - but only if you were watching in 4:3. The need to respect the 4:3 safe area meant that if you were watching in widescreen, the box was seen hanging about somewhere in between the centre and the corner where it just looked untidy. And then on trailers, menus etc, any text would also have to line up with the box, effectively revealing the 4:3 safe zone for widescreen viewers, a problem which the 1997 design had previously solved.

4) The boxes just looked plain ugly, reaching their low point in 2015 when they were shoved onto the revived 1990s idents. Northern Ireland had the right idea by removing the box and centralising the logo, which network then sensibly copied for the curve idents in 2018.

Thankfully the off-centre boxes have largely disappeared now, though they still have one on the BBC News titles. Why would they not want the 'BBC News' brand front and centre instead of being almost apologetically squashed inside a tiny red box somewhere off towards the corner?

When the boxed logos were introduced the BBC has a choice, they could've sticked with the 1997 style with the logo first along side with the name of the channel next to it side by side, or they could've got rid of the 1997 logo and the font and replaced it with a new logo and new font, because the 1997 logo and font did not work with the boxed logos.

There seems to be a lot of people speaking on behalf of everyone on the forum lately. I happen to not like the boxed logos, but there is no corporate 'we' for you to make the claim that 'we' disagree with ToasterMan. I sometimes wonder how many people read the forum but are scared to post as they have different opinions from 'us all'.

I honestly don't know what your problem is but it seems like every single post I've seen from you, you're arguing about how the 'old days' were supposedly better. It's happened multiple times in this thread. Can't you just accept that people have different opinions from yours?

Back to ToasterMan's point, I definitely agree about the boxed logos. They've become very messy in recent times thanks to BBC One breaking out of the box and BBC Three becoming a square, but for a time I'd say they rivaled the original 1997 brand in terms of consistency.

I do accept other people's opinions and I'm not trying to force anybody to agree with me, if that's what you think I'm doing then I apologise.

I completely agree, the point I was trying to make was that I feel the vertical logos wouldn't last long, but the stacked versions without the boxes I feel are the best of both worlds.

I can see why the boxes looked tacky, especially before BBC Two introduced the Curve idents in 2018, but the idea was there, just rectified when BBC Two introduced the stacked logo for trails in November 2012.

Just seen this Tweet from James Mobbs which makes it sound like there's been an official announcement, but I can't find anything. Anyone else seen anything?

Nice animation though. Reminiscent of the 1990s BBC video/family ident.

Someone I know who works at Auntie was saying that they've been given a presentation on the rebrand.

I pestered him but there wasn't any other details, just a video from Davie.

The way the blocks stretch from the rainbow background into the logo is so satisfying, I really hope we see stuff like this on-air.

I believe Superunion has involved in pan-BBC rebranding, alongside in-house BBC Creative. Cannot wait to see it in October at least.

Like the new web design: It's certainly very user-friendly.
One thing that bugs me though is the 'box' below the BBC logo doesn't align with the latter well.
In Worklife etc, the 'box' (and the wordmark) drifts to the right:
Henry post_id=41216 time= user_id=1214 Wrote:[Image: unknown.png]
(and that alignment varies between devices: On my laptop, the entire 'box' aligns with the first B instead)

Whereas the BBC Sport wordmark aligns with the logo:
Henry post_id=41216 time= user_id=1214 Wrote:[Image: unknown.png]

And on the channel schedules, the 'box' drifts left, but not the wordmark:
Henry post_id=41235 time= user_id=1214 Wrote:[Image: unknown.png]

Maybe they can standardize the box into a bar, a la BBC Sport, and align the wordmark with the logo?

There was certainly what you’d call a tantalising glimpse of what’s to come, with no word on when it will come into play.

New logo has been growing on me although keep wondering about when they’ll be replacing the old one on the buildings, get some stickers to fill in the boxes?
