I would have expected it from Sky News seeing as they got everything else right. I wonder does this show a shift in the channel more towards American style or viewpoints in the years to come? Perhaps a discussion for another thread!
I don’t think it strictly is protocol - I imagine that if there was an embargo Sky would’ve tried to do it but in this case there wasn’t time. They were probably trying to find the very well hidden (for obvious reasons) running order and show coding to worry too much about playing the national anthem, which really doesn’t add much.

Whatever the reason, it certainly was not a case of not having time. Every aspect of the response was pre-planned. This was very much an active decision by Sky, barring technical issues.
I have spoke to someone who said they apparently had some minor technical issues in that they couldn’t find the running order with the correct graphics in it.

You would never have known from the output. Very seamless!

BBC Radio 1 appears to be getting back to normal(-ish) even if some of the most upbeat songs haven't been played.

Also, I caught the family ident on BBC One after Breakfast, and it was still introduced as "this is the BBC" despite none of the other channels carrying it anymore. I don't think (Lockdown)Oneness will be making an appearance, at least for today, if they do break from the family ident I would hazard a guess that Forest and Logo/Generic will be dusted off and brought out

If I were to guess, after they do the Salute, that's the cue to switch back to the normal presentation.

I think there was a certain amount of that!

The PA flash (and tweet) and Royal Family tweet were both at 12:01pm, so that would appear to have been the agreed time.

A former colleague said it was announced in their newsroom a couple of minutes before Midday, so not much warning.

Does anyone have the moment BBC world news broke the news?

Prince Philip has Died - UTVLifer - 10-04-2021

ITV's ident is still like completely illegible. I hope that ITV have time to tweak it in the next few days, as you literally can't tell what channel it is as you can't see the logo

BBC World News were talking about another story before Geeta was cut off and they joined the News Report with Martine along with all the other BBC channels

I presume announcing news via their own social media channels is now the go too for the royals? Definitely wasn't the previously thought of 'agreed time' to announce the news at the same time. All things considered though, for BBC Television & BBC Radio to break into all programmes at ten past - if they only found out the news within those 10 minutes is a good feat by all.

It would be great if the playlist used on Radio 1 for such occasions were released on Sounds or Spotify. Something very relaxing about it.

I agree, I was listening to it yesterday and it sounded so relaxing.

The songs being played are similar to the Chillout Anthems, they air every Sunday morning at 6am on Radio 1 and are available on BBC Sounds.

It's a shame that World crashed into News' output, leaving many guessing about what had happened for a few minutes.

It's in the video on the previous page.

As noted, it's a shame they crashed in to the pictures of the Duke without any voiceover re-capping the news at that moment. But, the back timing of re-reading the statement to finish seconds before BBC One joining is a masterclass.

This makes a nice change after a couple of weeks of the same questions about the vaccine.

I guess Philip coverage will be dropped on Monday in favour of vox pops of people at the pub.

Clearly sounds like she was trying to get through and turned away from the camera quite quickly. Spot the two journos running across the newsroom in the headline sequence!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQAFaGY6Tyc

Perhaps a coincidence but Annita McVeigh was already wearing all black at 10am. Martine also wearing black and had the cardigan nearby soon after the headlines. https://tvhome.co.uk/bbc-two/2021/04/09/1000
I’m sure this clip has been much discussed, but I can’t stop watching it. Yes I think Martine has been told the news during the titles...and she is sort of racing that first intro to get into the Covid VT (presumably so she could get further instruction). She’s quite relaxed on the openers (even making that comment about Dan Johnson) and there’s no way she’d been told. Newsrooms knew at 11:50 there was going to be an imminent ‘Bridge’ announcement at 12:00 by the way....but that needn’t have necessarily been the Duke’s death. It could have been his readmittance to hospital for example. I guess Maxine could have put her jacket on around then, but I’m sure there’s a multitude of things to think about...and impossible to invoke them before the news is confirmed.
