Great news for Channel 4 and Amazon, a win, win for both parties. The biggest advertisement for Prime Video to date and as I decided to stream instead, not ONE single buffer.

Prime Video Tennis has come so far.

The Sport Thread - Brekkie - 11-09-2021

EPG didn't update so will have cut off any recordings before the conclusion.

The Sport Thread - Tom - 11-09-2021

The viewing figures for Channel 4 tonight will be interesting to see when it comes out.

The Sport Thread - Andrew - 11-09-2021

For those people who only watch tennis at Wimbledon, it’s certainly an eye opener the way they do things in the US open

From every surface having a sponsor so you can see about 20 on screen at any time, to then the climax, actually announcing the prize money!

Raducanu is clearly media trained. Her team has not only worked on her tennis, but also on how to deal with interviews.

The Sport Thread - william - 11-09-2021

Like quite a few players, Raducanu is signed to IMG.

This is really astonishing amount of product placement for Prime (not that I begrudge them it as a tennis fan, the coverage has been superb). I'm trying to figure out if C4 could have actually lost money due to the lack of breaks…

They probably consider it worth it, as it's doubtless won them many brownie points.

Something they wouldn't be able to do if they were priviatised for a start!

The Sport Thread - London Lite - 11-09-2021

Channel 4 is opting out now, but analysis is continuing on Prime Video.

The Sport Thread - Tom - 11-09-2021

When it comes to sports personality of the year, they might as well not bother with a shortlist as raducanu will surely win it.

The Sport Thread - Ash101 - 11-09-2021

I just can't see how Channel 4 have paid anywhere near the reported figure - because they got zero ad breaks and there was so much promotion for Prime Video. Not just the massive on screen logos, but the ad spots for upcoming Prime Video stuff. Very strange situation...

Maybe in reality Channel 4 have given them a million pound worth of free advertising.

The Sport Thread - London Lite - 11-09-2021

Interesting conversation about how the media should deal with such a young champion on Prime.

And this is the future for the linear FTA broadcasters such as C4 where the channel basically becomes a bigger platform for the Prime Video product. I wouldn't be surprised if Amazon do similar deals for individual matches in other countries in the future.

The Sport Thread - Ash101 - 11-09-2021

Well yes, I guess we can see now why they didn't let the BBC have the coverage this evening...

I thought it was fairly restrained compared to some US sports, but then again I was countering any crassness by eating strawberries and cracking open the Pimm's.
