Interesting for a few reasons:
This programme will be a live play out from Timeline in Ealing (where Whisper make and edit the programme) will it not? I’d be interested to hear how some of the programme had audio and some not - I’d have presumed that these parts of the build-up would have been edited together and played out as one (i.e. it’s not directed ‘as live’ with a director playing in the VTs manually around the pre-recorded links), so it’s not obvious to me how the VTs were without audio, yet the as-live link from the circuit did have audio.
How these fast turnaround highlights tend to work is that they are edited using AVID (other NLEs are available
), and then exported to an EVS for playout to line. If you’re really pushed for time, you can play it out stright from the NLE too, but that’s a last resort option.I’ve not seen the highlights today, but from what you describe... I think it is most likely what’s happened here is that either:
- the audio mixdown on the export was wrong for some reason - resulting in only some audio clips being included. Unlikely given how fast they corrected the problem.
- the wrong audio pair was being played out - for archival purposes, a show like this would probably have a full mix, a clean fx mix, and a clean mic mix. It’s possible the later of these somehow went to air... ether by EVS operator error, or a routing error in playout.
As you say, a second major issue in as many races. That doesn’t look good on anyone.

Formula 1 has confirmed in a statement yesterday that it is going to have a GP in Miami; Florida for a new 10 year deal which is to begin from 2022. It will be held as a day race on a street circuit outside the Hard Rock Stadium with projected top speeds of 320km/h. The date is not announced yet but it's likely that it will be held sometime between April or May 2022. Miami will be the 5th street circuit to be provided on the F1 calendar from next year. It will be added to other street circuits in Melbourne, Baku, Singapore & the new night race starting this year in Saudi Arabia.

Not sure where to park this, so I'm parking it here.
Overnight on Tuesday and Saturday mornings, BT Sport broadcast WWE's Raw and Smackdown shows live from the USA. However, being a live American TX there's a colossal amount of ad breaks, all clocking in at 3m or more.
Is there an Ofcom exception for BT to take so much ad minutage (which they're kinda forced to do) - I'm amazed at how many breaks there are. To the point I now record the shows and play them back the following night.

There are never more than 12 minutes of commercials per hour, so it is within Ofcom rules - the other interstitial material like promos, bumpers etc. do not count as part of the 12 minutes. The only Ofcom exception is a general one with live sport, basically relaxing the numbers of breaks and the durations where you've got no choice or where it fits better with the flow of the game (it's why those 30 second breaks between overs in cricket or between rounds in boxing are allowed), but the 12 minutes rule remains.
WWE is actually pretty dependable with its break pattern, though the durations will change from week to week they almost always have five breaks per hour, so it's quite easy to plan commercial minutage. Other American sports can a lot more problematic, with things like "floater" breaks which can appear at any point in the running order and half-time segments where they put out loads of breaks sometimes with parts as short as 10 seconds. If you're watching American sport on a British channel and you see a break full of promos and no commercials not long before the top of the hour, you can be sure they've been put in at the last minute to avoid a breach.

Now confirmed that the Pro14 Rainbow Cup won’t proceed as planned. The fixtures will still take place, but there will be effectively two separate competitions, the South Africans will only play derbies and have a separate competition (which is something like the fourth such competition they’ve played this season) while the Northern Hemiphere teams will play three rounds of derbies (or Scottish v Italian) fixtures as planned and then there will be three further fixtures against other Pro14 sides.

A bit of a mess really, and particularly for fans of the two teams that didn’t make the play offs because the season was cut short to make way for a competition that didn’t ultimately take place.
The TV rights will stay with the current broadcasters (eir Sport, Premier Sports, TG4, S4C, DAZN (Italy)), and Supersport) for this one, and that will be the end of the contact with the new contracts still not announced.

Do not BT fill some of the incoming breaks with trailers rather than adverts? That's as this situation used to be resolved. In the early AFL coverage there were lots of static captions used to 'fill' too.

The Athletic reports that Matchroom boxing to move from long-time partners Sky Sports to DAZN in the UK from July. Not a massive surprise with the global relationship between Matchroom and DAZN but yet another sport effectively leaving Sky after a long association.

First time I've seen this mentioned anywhere from that article on the upcoming Fury-Joshua fights this summer:
The undisputed heavyweight title fight will be carried by both Sky Sports Box Office and BT Sport Box Office in the UK — the first time ever.
Probably the easiest broadcasting decision to split between the two incumbent broadcasters for the fighters. As is mentioned, the first time this would happen in the UK, though ESPN and Fox shared the PPV rights for Wilder v. Fury II for the USA last year.

Bit rich to say he's 'struck a deal' for the rights. Hearn has a stake in DAZN - so it's just a case of himself handing himself the rights, and trousering the subscription money.
And hopefully, will take his attention elsewhere from overbidding for some of the UK/Ire PL rights.
