The messier bit is what to do about ad breaks between 8 and 9pm and after the end of the game.

I think with the ad breaks a problem is quite likely on Channel 4's end. The ad breaks were often not perfect during the Paralympics (especially being too long and missing some action) so they will need to be on the ball a bit more tonight.

I'm sure I've read C4 showed the US Open at some point in their early years, but not 100% sure if that was the golf or tennis version.

Stan Sport in Australia, an offshoot of Channel 9, air sport ad free on the streaming service but simulcast some of it with ads on the TV channels. It's just a case of being smart with bonus content during the breaks.

If you’re going to subscribe to Prime because you’re a tennis fan, you probably are, so they’re probably not worrying about loss of potential subscriptions just for this match. It gets the word out about Amazon’s tennis coverage for those who might be interested but aren’t aware. And finally it’s good PR.
I think it shows how the landscape is shifting somewhat, if this had happened 5 or 10 years ago, I can’t imagine it getting beyond the paywall.

If you’re already a subscriber it would given you the feeling of extra value if anything. It’s simply probably good PR they get from this outweighs anything else.
Whilst highlights would have been better than nothing, it’s not the same as watching something unfold live. Especially as with the former everyone is likely to know the result.

Will be pretty cynical to suddenly have Adverts after an entire tournament of Ad free coverage.
The Government did just before Channel Four announced it say they wanted it in Free to Air tv. Through in which case should they then say they want to amend the list to say that British players in a grand Slam final must be Cat A or B.

Can't recall if FTA highlights were picked up subsequently.

Yes, not just in the Olympics but in the eighties they also showed the Davis Cup for a bit.
