This presumably would have been sometime in 1996. That was indeed when Radio Times first printed it - here is a scan:
New BBC Logo - BrandonHTVYT - 20-09-2021 There's a short film from 1996 where Martin Lambie-Nairn talks about rebranding the BBC, at around 6:08 you can already see the logos for the channels and brands, including an early BBC News logo where "NEWS" isn't all caps. And at around 7:48 you'll also find an early version of the 1997 BBC Two "Car" ident where the "BBC TWO" logo is already there and the ident isn't zoomed in (in the final package the idents were zoomed in presumably because they were modified for widescreen so they cropped the widescreen versions to 4:3). The "BBC TWO" logo also appears to be a bit bigger than in the final 1997 package. I think this is the earliest appearance of the 1997 logo and the channel/brand logos i've seen so far. https://youtu.be/qOxhQuIfS84 New BBC Logo - AxiosBrit67 - 20-09-2021 It was o BrandonHTVYT post_id=40975 time= user_id=2085 Wrote:There's a short film from 1996 where Martin Lambie-Nairn talks about rebranding the BBC, at around 6:08 you can already see the logos for the channels and brands, including an early BBC News logo where "NEWS" isn't all caps. I assume that the ident will reuse again in Christmas 1997 before it was ditched and replaced with snow globe Christmas ident. New BBC Logo - ToasterMan - 20-09-2021 That reminds me, were the 1997-2001 versions of the pre-97 BBC Two idents cropped or remastered straight from the film negatives? New BBC Logo - HTV Best - 20-09-2021 Like I've always said October is always the best time for an ident refresh, those who think otherwise need a good talking too! note to self, check facts.

New BBC Logo - Argyess - 20-09-2021 I agree, I don't think there was any intention of BBC Two planning to re-use the Wallace and Gromit 1995 ident, it was just for "illustrative purposes" only. Indeed, from 1981 up to and including 2001, BBC Two were putting out a new ident every Christmas. The recycling started in 2002. The only years since then where we've had a brand new Christmas ident package for the channel (without any concurrent use of previous idents) have been 2005, 2007, 2011 and 2018. So not all that often! New BBC Logo - Mike - 20-09-2021 It’s also interesting that the proportions weren’t quite there in that video. The lettering was a lot larger in the boxes as shown there. Presumably this is something they bottomed out as time went on. What I do find interesting is the letterhead design was pretty much the same as the final product. Going by those tweets, they sound extremely similar to Oneness. New BBC Logo - Joe - 20-09-2021 Ridiculous in the sense that there are about 2000 ways you could use any of those features in a different way to the current package. I’m sorry you’re offended, but it’s a bit maddening to see people constantly jump to conclusions in this reductionist fashion.
