There’s a perception, rightly or wrongly that the BBC is embarrassed to fly the flag for Britain these days. It would be such an easy win for them to introduce something that has the spirit of the balloon idents that its successors have failed to capture - something distinctly BBC. It’ll be disappointing if the new idents are nondescript instead.
When I watched the balloon globe I liked seeing it float over locations across the country. Some of my favourites were the ones shot outside England. Then when the balloon could be added electronically, it added more locations where previously they may not have been able to film in. A perfect relaunch based on a perfect brief of BBC1 bringing the world to every part of the UK.
That they didn't think to film all over the UK for these new idents is a surprise considering the BBC are making an effort to do more outside London & England.
A bit of an own goal really.
I hope the effort is worth it and the new idents aren't rubbish! Fingers crossed.

Thank you for offering a bit of sanity. Why is everyone getting so worked up about where an Ident is filmed or hasn't been filmed? surely, the fact that we are all British and that the idents were filmed in Britain is really all that matters isn't it? Personally speaking, I have been to Scotland, to Wales and the Isle of Wight! Once you've seen one British tree or a British house or a British bench or a British meadow or a British street, then you've seen all British trees, houses, benches, meadows and streets.
I think it's time that everyone stopped playing divisive politics when it comes to Television Presentation and just got on with living.
I'm afraid I have to disagree... Firstly, your point about 'We're all British' is way off. I'm Scottish, I identity as Scottish and have never identified as British and i'm certainly not alone. I'm sure there are many people who identify as Welsh or Irish more than British.
I understand this is a forum for TV presentation, so i'll say no more about that.
Secondly - houses, fields, fences etc... it sound's stupid but they genuinely do not look the same. The idents 'feel' English, i don't know how else to describe them. It's very easy to tell that none of them have been filmed in Scotland or Wales or NI.
Creative have been lazy. I don't understand how they couldn't travel to any of the nations (like before) and record at least ONE ident. The new set are nice but not mind blowing... They feel slow and they don't build to anything, the lens animation happens within the first 5 seconds and then the rest of the ident is pretty much back to Oneness :lol:

It's absolutely fine to disagree and the more differences of opinion the better. Thank you for your reply and your reasoning. I'll just finish by reiterating that I have, as a bloke living in Berkshire, never been represented by a UK ident from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland so many times that there has never ever been any ident created to represent where I live. That's really my point about it actually not really mattering about where Idents are filmed.
Your comments about creative being lazy are interesting though. I think BBC One has tried too hard over the last few years to be wholly representative and by doing so have usually gone in the wrong direction. Ironically, the most universally representative symbol was the globe but for some reason they ditched it to try and be more appealing. The things they could have done with the globe are limitless.
I do agree though, that they absolutely should have filmed at least one in the north of England and one each for the nations to begin with.

Yeah but Scotland is part of Britain. if you identify as Scottish (or any other British country for that matter) then I'd think you'd automatically identify as British. Plus the "back to Oneness" remark worries me a bit...

I think we're going off topic into something else entirely, so in an attempt to bring it back around, what has been seemingly confirmed is:
1. The idents launch on Friday, presumably before The One Show.
2. They are the ones that were due to launch in October, though with minor edits and such
3. More regional specific ones for the Nations and Regions are coming, but are delayed.
4. There will be time-based variants of each ident

Huge anti-climax coming this Friday at 7pm then. More uninspired One-ness with people sitting on a bench, staring at the camera, accompanied by bland music for goodness sake.

Thanks for the run down, I hadn't quite picked up this detail yet. Looking at the names of the idents I can now see this and looking like a morning, afternoon/evening and night version of each setting.
Going on what Thistle has told us I imagine the start of the ident is 3 different lenses spinning across the setting which each reveal glimpses of the 3 different times of day before settling on one and you then watch the scene play out through the lens.

You honestly CAN tell where they're NOT filmed.
For example, the market does not look like any market you would find anywhere in Northern Ireland, the Farm does not look like a croft in Scotland, etc.
You might not be able to tell where they're filmed, but I can tell that none of them have been filmed anywhere near where I live.

Some nice touches with the BBC Blocks and ONE lettering.

Once again, if they’d just stopped doing location/people based idents and use CGI/animation instead, we would’ve got something truly creative and something that wouldn’t have caused issues with areas of the UK being excluded.
BBC2 got it right. Why haven’t BBC1 for the last 20 years?
Yes, I know, they haven’t aired yet, but Thistle’s comments (thank you again) confirm my initial suspicions. It may not be exactly like Oneness, but it’ll be generic and underwhelming.

Is that kind of fencing common to fields in Mourne or Snowdonia? It's really not any field.

I will say this - my biggest gripes with Oneness are the lack of any real "movement" or music. If what I suspect to be the case (basically the same sort of premise but with some movement, camera angles and light music) is true, these will be perfectly pleasant (if slightly bland) - certainly an improvement over Oneness!
