Is the sonic branding what we see on the BBC1 endboards now?

No, the Sonic Brand would mean a jingle or a melody. Like the BBC Two Chime, the Channel Four Fourscore, the ITV ambient music stuff
I see!

Thanks for explaining. Didn't the BBC iPlayer trails and app use to have a sonic boom noise? I'd like this idea on a BBC1 Ident. BBC1 idents miss a musical cue.

Not half! Diagetic noise from the Oneness idents is pretty bleak on its own!

If anyone think about Sonic branding, we're thought about BBC 100 Years sting, which is the supposed sonic branding that i heard. Somebody watching YouTube will see countless example of standard BBC ident and 100 Years version with supposed sonic branding.

Nations were not happy as the idents did not represent each corner of the UK. As I said before, things look different depending on where you are. I suppose that is one positive with Oneness... these idents were shot and featured different areas of the country.
I think most viewers would rather have quality idents all shot in London than crap idents shot across the UK.

I never really understood the logic in tagging in locations on the Oneness idents - made a rod for their own back really.

Precisely, I've forgotten how many times I've seen Sausage Dog Walkers in Newcastle and the announcer saying "This is BBC One in the East" before a news bulletin.

BBC One: 2021 Rebrand - JAS84 - 26-03-2022

Yeah, there should've been at least one ident filmed in each region, so that you didn't get situations like that. I take it no Oneness idents were filmed in the BBC East/ITV Anglia region?

Living in Berkshire, I have never been represented by any channel ident, especially BBC One ones. I have seen numerous Scottish, Welsh, Cornish and Northern Ireland idents, but never one from the South Central area. Personally, I've always just accepted that as part of the United Kingdom, it didn't really matter where an ident was filmed since we are all supposedly British. As Brekkie said, once they started tagging locations on idents, it opened a can of worms that didn't need opening. So, considering that I, a man living in Southern England is represented by numerous locations miles away from my geographic area, I really don't see the problem of people up north, Wales or anywhere being represented by locations that are actually anywhere within the United kingdom.

By the way, this isn't an attack on your good self. Personally I think it's politics these days that make people feel excluded rather than reality. The last two decades have created divisions and have led to people changing the way they see themselves within the UK. That of course is a discussion for elsewhere, but in my opinion, for British people to be represented by the British Broadcasting corporation showing British things and British people. I'd say that's actually alright.

It's why a channel should always launch with 40+ idents like the balloon globe. Covered the whole country and were ready to go. Also helped that the balloon looked good in so many locations that viewers didn't mind where it was.

Such a shame the new idents were delayed and now they're launching without idents for all nations anyway! It's like a W1A storyline.

The moral of the story is that channels are better off with logos! Big Grin

So you'd rather stay with 2015 Channel 4?

Alrighty then.

BBC One: 2021 Rebrand - Blubatt - 26-03-2022

1986 'TWO' begs to differ on that.

BBC One: 2021 Rebrand - JetixFann450 - 26-03-2022

The late 2010's were awful for idents but at the same time experimental. If I'm going to be honest, the idents for ITV Creates, the quite abstract Channel 5 idents where there were 5 things on screen, and relating it back to BBC, the 'Curve' BBC Two idents were all idents I appreciated and loved because of their novel ideas and concepts.

But if I'm going to be honest, I get the idea behind Oneness. Postcards that basically showcase the landscape of the UK. Only problem is that it never properly advertised the channel enough. Oneness? Sure. But BBC One? If you hadn't tuned out of the channel by now, you wouldn't have known.

It's why I'm glad when BBC rebranded, the BBC logo was prominantly displayed throughout the ident (and like European channels, which I love for having presentation that links both promo to ident, it's really slick how the BBC logo extends and then pushes back down into another promo/ident), instead of fading in from the end of the sequence. They sorta damped how bad Oneness was by slapping a giant indicator that it is "THE BBC" at least.

Based on what we're hearing, I'm not looking forward to this rebrand happening at all.

One minute we're being told the "BBC is for everyone", (no matter who or where you are in the UK) with the rather sickly and nauseous BBC 100 promos, then now we're gonna have several weeks, possibly months of visually blatantly obviously London and the South East idents with the logos of BBC ONE Northern Ireland/Scotland/Wales slapped on. Are these new idents supposed to be ironic or something?

You just literally couldn't make this up! This is even more far fetched than a W1A storyline. I hope we get some beautiful and blatantly obvious shots of Belfast soon. The promise to the nations that they are "coming soon" is not a promise than can be strung along for that long.

Hold your horses.
Honestly, you can’t tell where they’re filmed.
And this is just the first set.

Don't judge them if you haven't even seen them yet.

I just hope they record quite a few different ones, to stop the repetition since the balloon era ended

Sure, because that wouldn't be a huge expense or take even longer to produce. I can just envisage the "waste of the licence fee" articles now.

I recall articles criticising how much the circle idents cost when they premiered, and similar for the previous set. Funnily enough I don't recall such articles for Oneness, in part as only two idents initially featured for at least a week (and they look cheap).
